Do you believe that a disappearing is about to happen?

A.k.a. the rapture of the church. I think we're on the brink of it.

Report as

No- "rapture" is a nonsensical belief even for the Christian religion. It's also not Scriptural- it was essentially invented by a preacher in the late 19th century.

You're right, the term "rapture" was not in scripture.
Report as
Neither was the concept.

Do you have any idea at all WHERE that comes from?
Report as
Yep. Somewhere in your head.
Report as
John Nelson Darby (Evangelical) 1859, see the answer from DonnaMabry below. Rapture, from the Latin for Rapere ~to take, or seize. ( also the base for the word rape) :/
Report as
Exactly. The idea came from one guy's head a century and a half ago.

What kills me is how some evangelicals rank on Mormons for believing Joseph Smith was a prophet, but believe in the rapture which was also conceived by one guy pretty recently.
Report as
Let's not forget the other evangelical myth one guy came up with, the 6,000 year old Earth myth, from archbishop Ussher in 1650 ad. The fringe seems to like making things up.
Report as
And then pretending it was there all along. Of course, I never met an evangelical who even heard if Darby. I can't fathom believing in something I didn't even know the history of.
Report as
Agreed, kinda like jumping in the water without knowing how to swim. Is it just the Evangelicals, Mormons, and the Baptists that come up with the craziness or are there other large denominations that also do? I know the Episcopal's get funky with the tongues and the snakes.

I'm a believer of Jesus Christ, but I don't really believe in a rapture but I could be wrong.

you say that your a believer in Christ but are you truly with him
Report as
colton... I can't begin to quote scripture... but what I've seen on this thread from several, both believers and non-believers is that the rapture is not scripture based. If you believe in it, can you direct us to the scripture(s) that states this will happen?

Colton, who are YOU to decide who's with Christ or not? Wow!!

Good luck with that..... I have no idea where people get that from. Seriously misinterpreting something for sure! Talk about "false doctrine" when it hits the fan there is going to be some very shocked people! We will be protected!! But we WILL be here. He who endures to the end are truly blessed ><>

Matt 24:29
. 29 Immediately AFTER the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened , and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken : 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn , and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together HIS ELECT from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other .

How on earth can anything be made any clearer???

What if it's the tribulation of his people, not the great tribulation? I've been listening to tapes on tribulation, and there are scriptures that refer to the tribulation of God's people, not the Great Tribulation
Report as
Suzie17
We are all going thru it. Stop listening to TAPES, ask God to give you wisdom of HIS WORD thru the Holy Spirit. Who do you think the "ELECT" are hon? His chosen people! Some people are going to be stuck here after the tribulation. And the bible only has 1! The trib is divided into 2 parts, the "time of sorrows" which us going on now, which lasts 3.5 years. Then the "Great tribulation" when God unleashes His wrath. That's 3.5 years. We will be told to go into our home, close the doors and windows and pray. For the ELECT, it will pass quickly. What is 3.5 years to some could feel like 3 hours or days what ever for us.
Theres also Rev 7 which talks about people in white robes. It tells us "these are they who came OUT OF the great tribulation..." you can't come out of something you were not in. We will be here, but hidden and protected!

The bible is a book of gruesome fairy tales.

It will be for some that's for sure.
Report as
Christ will rapture his church then after that many of the wicked people left will convert to true Christianity the ones in the white robes are the men and women who have been included in the rapture that verse is referring to the people in heaven. read revelation more closely and make sure you are right with Christ when this happens so you don't suffer the judgments.
Report as
Suzie17
No it's not. It's the VISION Christ is giving John of after the tribulation.
Report as
Suzie17
And I know Rev inside out haha! There is no rapture.
Report as
well if you say so but i would have to disagree with you.
Report as
Suzie17
That's fine! God bless you!
Report as
Wait, by the rapture, you mean the return of Christ, right? That's what I mean
Report as
like wise
Report as

Dream, people who believe in the rapture think Christ is going to take them up before the trib starts. He isn't. Or I should say, DIDN'T.
Report as
I've been taught very differently, but I will pray about it. But my dad is a very wise man who has followed God all his life, and obeyed God, and heard the voice of God many times. I'll ask his advice as well.

I've heard Him too. Please don't worry one way or another. All you need to do is love Him.

People have believed they were on the brink of the end of the world for about 2000 years. It's never going to happen, just iron-age fairy tales.

How is Christianity not a doomsday cult?

They say the fastest way to become an atheist is to actually read the bible.

It starts with the story of creation which plainly nonsense. No real need to go on from there.

The first christians thought the end was going to happen in their lifetime, and they were going to be raptured up with Jesus. Well it didn't happen then and over 2000 years later it still has not. Christians have been saying "it's going to happen "it's going to happen any time now, very soon". It ain't happening, any time soon or later
