In a shrewd move by many democrats, we now see a sudden historic shift in trying to increase the minimum wage sharply upward. Few really understand the shock it will cause to the economy. Besides increased costs of the labor to produce many goods and services, we'll see a hidden agenda that many democrats won't talk about. That being the higher income and state taxes they will be able to collect and spend as a panacea for many states budget problems. Only one governor, that being Pat Quinn of Illinois has been vocal on his support of the wage increase just for the tax angle alone. While it might stimulate the economy in the short term, the long term costs to business and industry, and even the lowly food service industry will suffer a blow that it will take years if not decades to recover from. I'm a supporter of wages being paid for services rendered, and feel if the incentive to strive harder to produce for your employer is lost by this, well you just can't throw money at a labor force, that for many, has only become a means to an end. Work hard and rise to your own success, or stand in line for more hand-outs. What a terrible way to buy electors votes! Yet when haven't we seen the progressives stoop to such levels.
