A medical restraint(pills) is seen as more humane and less damaging to the child's self esteem. Physical restraints against undesired attitudes, or behaviors is seen as damaging to the child's self image and self esteem. Just give the child a bunch of pills and keep him gorked out and he will be calm and not have to be told to mind as he wonders around like a slug. I was spanked as a child and so was almost everyone I knew as a class mate/friend and they all turned out ok. The kids that wound up in prison were the kids who came from totally unstructured homes, or those "organic" kids who had parents who didn't wear deordant and some of those kids wound up in prison for big time drug charges.
Because society is completely wicked and they would rather drug our children with harmful pharmaceutical drugs and destroy them so they will have to take no responsibility for anything. They don't know God and they are wicked beyond we can even imagine.
I don't think it's socially unacceptable to spank children at all. It's unacceptable to abuse them for sure. I'm not even saying spanking is a great idea but it's definitely still around. Maybe it's ok in small doses occasionally. I'm on the fence.
Medication though is a bit TOO acceptable in my opinion. It is an easy way out and overused and abused by shrinks from the little I've seen of real life situations.
I wonder that myself frequently. I spank my daughter when the situation requires it, and avoid medication aside from vaccines. I think it's sick the way kids are under-spanked and over-medicated these days. The financial insentives for medicating kids are enough to.make you hurl. Public schools get a payout from the Gov. for every child they diagnose with ADD/ADHD. Since the Gov started paying schools per diagnosis the number of boys aged 7-15 diagnosed with ADD/ADHD has skyrocketed. So once again, instead of working with kids and addressing the actual issue thru discipline (the mental not physical kind) the answer is to medicate the symptoms not fix the problem.
