Why are women so obsessed with Valentine's Day? So upset if they don't get what they wanted?

Report as

I agree. Valentines Day is so commercialized. Why does that day have to be so special when love should be demonstrated all the time. I tell me wife I love her every day every chance I get. Also it doesn't need to be a special day to buy something nice for the one you love be it something big or small. The important thing is to never stop showing love and affection. Thats how I live by and so should others

In todays society, Valentines Day has become more of an ego holiday-just an opinion. It can be great, but there are extremes much like anything else. Media teaches young woman and adults to expect huge romance responses to the day-which sadly, often fail to meet the unrealistic expectations.

Someone on here earlier was complaining about what her husband got her. I was baffled. Why can't people be greatful that they were even "thought" about, Isn't that enough?

Girls need to feel that they are loved. it's an emotional up with for them to receive from you the things that they enjoy. give her something beautiful and its only for her

I'm very fortunate to have a mate who is the least material woman I've ever known, not that I don't get her something. She abhors the candy, jewelry, the stereotypical VD stuff. She's been dying to go skydiving so I bought here a pass to go for her first jump. I realize that's directly opposed to what most women would want, and would never been seen as romantic. But i disagree. If a man identifies something she REALLY wants to do , gets what she needs to make it happen and then surprise, hands it over, to me thats romantic. Romance isn't a noun, it's a verb.
enjoyed chatting with you tonight CJ, see ya round.

Such a generalized statement. I don't appreciate being thrown in with the mix.

My theory is that women love it because men get reminded that this day is coming, so their women get lots of attention that they crave every day. I never take chances with getting what I want or not, I straight up tell him so he knows and doesn't have to guess.

It is based on your families cultural values. For many it's just a day of red hearts..

Who else but the greeting card and floral industries would take a date that commemorates the stoning and beheading of a 3 rd century Roman Catholic priest and turn it into a day to shower a woman with gifts? I guess any excuse will do as long as it accomplishes the objective?

Media, Hallmark, Kays, pandora, restaurants, Godiva... the industry slams us with non stop visuals that are suppose to be the norm.

Unrealistic expectations. I blame the Hallmark Channel. Romance books and movies set the bar unrealistically high. A man is apparently supposed to instinctively know the perfect gift and spare no expense to get it, if he REALLY loves you, that is. I guess fighting your way through rush hour traffic every day to get to a dead end job you hate just to be the provider your significant other needs isn't enough.

I don't get it either. We've never made a big deal out of it but I'm also not the kind to get upset if he fails to read my mind and "get me the perfect whatever"

I don't know but I learn not to ask that question. That's why I already got her some gifts for Valentines Day.

They want to be treated like a queen. My x wanted to know what I wanted for valentines day. I said for Him to move on & not want to get back with me. We r only friends now but he wants us to get back together & I keep telling him no thanks. Not interested.

Women...they are so fragile, they expect a lot from their partners/spouses... to take care of them... show love & affection. & now a days thanks to media...we all like/love to celebrate valentine's day.. we are too busy in our lives...that we have now dedicated one day to show our love to our partners... well this is completely wrong... for me...i want all days of my life with same spirit ...with same love & affection....no compromise on this...
