What is wrong with your engine when you find shreds of aluminum in your oil pan? For a 2002 ford ranger 2.3 liter engine.

thin shreds of aluminum about an inch long found in oil pan

Report as

pistons probably the rings due to old oil or not enough oil some put a magnet on the bottom of the oil pan to keep them from washing up the pistons and scaring them even more.. better start saving for a new engine or car

Aluminum will not stick to a magnet. That trick only works for iron (steel).

time for a rebuilt engine. why did you let it run low on oil? when that red CEL (check engine light) is on it means something. when it is flashing it means: Pull over NOW!

Timing gear. Buy new motor. Chances of getting all metal out is slim. It happened to me. Went for the rebuild. My mistake cost a fortune.

I think the problem is the bearings because my truck guzzles oil and produces a thick white cloud of smoke.
