I believe they could, given enough ingenuity, financing, and support. You can reduce the chances; you can never wholly eliminate them. Look at Timothy McVeigh. Some terrorists can be domestic and already within our borders, undetectable until they act. I don't know how likely it is, but it is certainly possible.

What constitutional right did I give up? Anybody that thinks that terrorists can't get at us again is daydreaming. I'm confident that they can't hijack an airplane, but anything else is fair game. We have borders that we can't stop people from crossing. Who's to say there aren't already terrorists plotting. I have nothing to hide. Monitor my phone calls and watch my computer usage.

I lived through the McCarthy era. I know what unlimited government intrusion can lead to if something turns up that is misinterpreted as anti-American. And it ain't pretty. Even now my brother-in-law is on a no-fly list because the TSA has somehow tied his name to someone of interest, but who my brother-in-law knows nothing about. And his attempts to get off that list by asking for more information have fallen on deaf ears. The threat of terrorism is completely out of perspective compared to the very real threats of death from our own cars, guns, and bad health choices. Those are the real killers we need to focus on. The object of terrorism is not death, but spreading terror. They have apparently been very successful.
Report as
"They have apparently been very successful" - yes they sure have. The TSA, which was created in response to the "terrorist threat" has become the real terrorist organization. The instances of public harassment and humiliation they inflict have, I am convinced, done more to spread real fear amongst our own people than the enemy has.

How many countries have had the US military presence in them, who's citizens muttered the same words as you?

No, 911 was a real wake up. I doubt a coordinated attack like that could happen again, the scale of the attack. That does not mean an isolated attack by some Religious crazy person(s) could not happen, so the watchword should be "monitor". Giving up rights is always a drastic way to go, once given up, you'll never get them back and will suffer for it.

If course it could happen. I believe it will happen. ( I pray I'm wrong) the freedom this country allows us also opens doors to terrorists. That being said after 9/11 its going to have to be a much more complex action

Yes. It can happen anywhere and anytime. No matter how many troops protect us.

Terrorism is a force of nature like a hurricane or a tsunami. We can do all we can to mitigate their potential damage, but until the source of terrorism is eliminated (ignorance, religious fanaticism, poverty) then terrorist events are inevitable. But knowing this is no reason to give up our freedoms anymore than we should live in constant fear of a horrendous act of nature. Our own cars, guns. and bad health choices are FAR more of a concern than a terrorist strike.

Of course they can, we can only make it more difficult, we can't stop it.Gov. Can't guarantee our safety. It's my civil liberties I want guaranteed. To think anyone can protect me at all times would be an Illusion.giving up freedom for security is unexceptable. I won't willingly trade a dollar for a dime.
