in the American revolution it was the british fighting the british. We did say that we were Americans at the time but the majorety of us were British. while the civil war was partially the same except America was actually a State now. comment if you have another question:) i can help a lot
In a way; at the time it started the "United States" were British colonies, part of the British Empire. It was two parts of the same empire fighting against each other. So, a "civil" war. Until the part in North America won the war; then they were two separate entities. The next time they went to war, it was just a war. That was in 1812, I believe.
Both involved one group of people breaking away from another group. Both were motivated primarily due to economic reasons. Both included a small army out witting a larger one. Both involved the threat of European involvement, however only the Revolution saw it happen. There are several more minor similarities but those are the most relevent.
