How do you know if you have strep throat?

I went to the doctors today but all he did was shined a light asked if I have a head cold and left... I looked online but I'm on my iPod so it's hard to do "research" on here. I wasn't even talking to him for 5 minutes. Not that I can talk. I know because I looked at the time when I went in and went out. thanks and sorry for rambling. Oh I've had this since Sunday.

Typically they have to do a strep test to be sure, however there are some overt symptoms that can indicate strep as well - the big one being white looking patches on the back of your throat, along with a fever, chills, etc...

In most cases if you don't have the white patches, then it's usually not strep, however if you are still not feeling better in a couple days, go back in and have them test for it. I went in once positive that I had strep, and they didn't see the patches because the infection was actually way down past where it's normally visible. When they finally got around to doing the test it came back positive.

Thats the reason I went in and he didn't do that. But I forgot to say I've had this since Sunday and there are white patches on the back if my throat.

Go back in and request that they test you.

If I went back in then I would of had to pay again and I can't afford that right now.

Call them back and tell them that they didn't do their job right the first time, and that they should let you come back in (without being charged for the office visit) for the test. It literally only takes about 5 seconds of their time, to swab your throat, it's something that the nurse on duty can do - so other than the cost of the test, they shouldn't need to charge you for the office visit. Especially since it's something that they should have done the first time you were in.

Eh, it's to late now. I'm starting to get better.
This is why I don't like doctors and all that crap.

He can usually tell by looking at your throat, plus you generally run a high fever. Strep throat is not that common, there is, however, a very nasty bug, going around, that is causing KILLER SORE THROATS. Aspirin, Sucrets, and gargling with salt water, seems to do the trick

Wish I would of seen this earlier. I've had no energy and have been sleeping about 18-20 hours a day this whole week. i've been taking stuff but I didn't do the salt thing or have sucrets. Anyway as I'm sitting here rambling I've had this nasty thing since Sunday.. Hopefully almost gone. Again anyway, thank you very much I appreciate the help.
