My beloved husband passed away while receiving SSDI. What are my options?
I am handicapped and also receive SSDI. The guidelines on the SSA site are confusing to me. It tells me that since i am 53 and receive SSDI and am childless, I can receive 71.5 % of my husband's SSDI. My question is: is the 71.5 % of my husband's SSDI in ADDITION to my own SSDI or INSTEAD OF my own SSDI? 71.5% of his would actually be less than I receive on my own SSDI now. I don't want to choose the wrong thing when I visit the SSA office next week. Does anyone know how this would work? Thank you.
