Can you help me remember the title of this sci fi book?
It's more Michael Crichton style than Star Trek... anyways... the main premise is there's a scientist who is cloning humans, three boys escape and end up with a guy, the boys each have a number tattooed on them, and they only speak Latin.
I remember the book starts out with the guy thinking he hit a kid with his car, so he gets out but can't find the kid. He gets knocked unconscious and wakes up to find that the car and his wallet and phone are still there, but the food in his car is gone. The kids follow him back home and he somehow manages to trap them in his garage, and to pass them food he nails some fabric from the door to the frame so it can only open a little bit, because otherwise the kids try to attack him (they act feral.) He notices they're speaking some weird language so he calls a friend who recognizes it as Latin.
The scientist also has some military side kick guy who goes to third world countries and kidnaps people to bring back to the lab. The lab is this old military complex that was supposedly contaminated or something, so the locals leave it alone. I think it's set in Nevada.
