How much does a good lawyer cost?

I need an attorney that specializes in the music business. If possible could you give the standard hourly as well as retainer fee? Thanks everybody!

That depends on what you need the lawyer to do, but you should probably look to spend $200+ an hour for someone with a decent amount of experience in their respective field. Naturally, you can shop around for the best price but you get what you pay for.

And the retainer is more to keep the lawyer on hold for when you need them or a payment in advance for the work they're about to do. You might just have to pay the hourly fee depending on what you guys agree on.

A lawyer specializing in the music business is probably in one of the major cities and will charge according to his/her specialty. I would expect to pay at least $500 an hour, probably more, and there is NO free consultation with these guys. Even run of the mill lawyers in small towns now charge $200 or more an hour.
