When do canadians work? It seems like every other week there is a holiday yet they have money to spend across the border?

how was your "Family Day"? I am just curious how they seem to have plenty of money for huge shopping sprees every weekend

Yeah, well, that's a liberal socialist hell for ya. Just kidding - serious answer is - The Canadian economy weathered the global economic crisis much better than most , notably the American. This is generally regarded to be due to our rational & effective & enforceable financial sector regulations - we still have AAA credit rating, the housing sector didn't crash, millions didn't lose their homes, their savings, their investments. As a trading nation, some sectors of the economy have suffered because our major trading partners have suffered. On the whole though, we are doing okay & people have money to spend.
As for holidays, Canada now has one federally or provincially mandated paid holiday each month except December which has two. Family day just came into effect in B.C. this February . Mine was great, Thanks for asking!

That's because Canada has a greater emphasis on worker's rights, and they value employees and are loyal to them and regard them as assets that are to be valued and developed as opposed to treating them as a disposable liability as they do in other such places such as China, India, and the United States.

But do they have a higher minimum wage or get tons of bonuses or work 12 hour days or what?
Report as
Not a chance.

The minimum wage in Canada is determined on the Providence level. But even the lowest minimum wage is higher than than the United States minimum wage. I think China has a slightly higher minimum wage but being slighlty better than China is nothing to boast about.

I meant China has a slightly lower minimum wage*

It's usually only full-time workers and workers for banks or other 'official' places that get those holidays off. Part-time workers (and even full-time workers, if their offices are still operating that day) can still work, with time and a half. If they don't work, they get a full day's pay at their wage.

And Family Day's on Monday. :)

Canada has just about the same amount of holidays as the states. Canada doesn't have many political holidays like the US has, but has a lot of "family days" and such.
