What should Carnival do for its passengers for the awful ordeal they were put through?

Report as

Well they are as the other posters mentioned giving them some reimbursements, but raw sewage is a very serious thing and and since Carnivals stock was only down 1 % today I think the passengers would be foolish to settle for the very insignificant amount that they are offering bc you don't know what health issues could arise from this.

The CEO needs to send a personal letter of apology to each person who was on-board that cruise and refund them their entire payment! Customer service today is sorely lacking in this world! This is evidence of that!
Report as
Show me the money. Save Carnival for those who don't know better. They're in the news all to frequently for similar reasons.

Have we been watching the same news reports?

That wouldn't even come close to compensating them for the Hell they were submitted to for way too many days!! Those Tugs should have been there within at least 24hours!
Report as
And what do you think is a reasonable compensation?
Report as
Haven't made up my mind on that one yet, am still of the opinion that what they (the company, not the crew) needlessly made those people go through for far too long is close to criminal, absolute and total disregard for the wellbeing and safety of passengers. But that is the inherent problem with these Monstrosities built to impersonate Ships! They are about as Sea-Worthy as a canoe and carry way too many passengers to have out there without possibility of immediate-safe evacuation. So, ya.. still wrapping my head around the fact it took them an absurdly long time to get Tugs out there to begin the slow process of hauling it back and then.. Don't send enough and of the right type to do it right! Oof!
Report as
They did say they are giving everyone a full refund but I do agree, is that enough? Can you imagine saving up for years to take this cruise and having this happen?
Report as
They are getting another free cruise as well. That's not a bad deal. For all the headlines this made, there are thousands and thousands of cruises going on with no mishaps. Probably much better chance of getting in your car and it breaking down. Welcome to the real world. Stuff happens.
Report as
Yes, stuff happens all the time.. But when we start accepting that as a "oh well"
For stuff that could be prevented, stuff that then happens which is NOT dealt with appropriately, and stuff that borders on criminal negligence;then we are leaving the door open to more and more irresponsible behaviour by companies which have been getting away with such behaviours for way too long!

Mona we could finally have that honeymoon you've wanted. Wait this is the cruise line that lost a few honeymooners. Ah what the heck, let's do it. I know that your love for me will always be there, even after you get me drunk & push me overboard

Sure, machines break.. But those Tugs should have been there within 24 hours minimum; not 5 days!!
Report as
tugs want go too far out
Report as
Depends on the Tugs! There are Tugs that are much more seaworthy than that so-called ship! Just check Wiki under Tug Boats and you'l see what I mean about Ocean-going Tugs.

Right now they're giving a full refund (trip) + $500. They tried again to tow it & the cable snapped--they're really not instilling any confidence in their cruise line

You can say that again!! Those Tugs should have been there within 24 hours minimum!! And please... Send 2 Tugs at first to haul that monstrosity which was never meant to be seaworthy in the first place? Floating Death Traps! Yuk!
Report as
$500? That's all? Multi-million dollar international company can afford atleast $5,000 per passenger in my opinion! I think they earned it!
Report as
^That's $100/day.. I've had jobs where I made well more than that!!

@Billio, agree, and very good point!******

I'm sure that the big brass are bent over just waiting for the lawsuits to roll on in. By law they have to have more seats than pax when it comes to lifeboats. As soon as the fire started, as Capt. I'd be loading them up. They'd all have gone home days ago
Report as
@fritz, Lawsuits already beginning to come in, I'd heard.. No surprise!!
And as much as I'm against the " sue-mentality" so prevalent in the U.S., this is one case where it is totally warranted!
As far as Cap. deciding not to evacuate the ship, was the right decision.
When your talking about getting 4000+ people into Life Boats and Placing them out in Deep open waters Miles from any shore and with all the inherent dangers associated with that...?? He made the right call. What I'm sure he never expected, was the total incompetency and disregard by Upper Management of the Company! That whole colossus of a so-called Ship should have been towed into Safe Harbour within 2days Max!!! It absolutely makes no sense that it took them that long!!! Sheer Incompetence and Blatant Disregard for their customers( passengers) AND their Employees! People tend to forget they were there stuck out there also, yet managed to do amazing under circumstances; and those employees(crew, entertainers etc. sure don't get paid that well!!

Carnival should also pay/reinburse each and every passenger for a complete physical exam and blood test at their doctor's office.
That many people in a confined space, no running water, sewage floating everywhere...
That boat is a gigantic floating petri dish of filth and disease.

The best thing they could do is bring them to Alabama . So we could write them a parking ticket for 28 million for parking that big boat here. The reason I say that is Mobile spent 28 million for a new dock and reception center for their ships and as soon as it was finished they pulled out of Mobile .

Yes, that was horrible! Just one more Mega Cruise Ship "oh well" behaviour..
(See my comments under Inglewood1996...

At least Bama got some free publicity as being the "nice port which let them dock":-), and Mobile's Dry Docks may(?) make some $$ if they get the contract to fix it.

This was a vacation ruined. These people probably won't get another vacation for another year. Carnival should give each a refund, pay all medical expenses associated with this nightmare, and not less than $1000 for each day for the pain and suffering. This will show that they do care about their passengers.

Reimbursement at the VERY least.

I know some will say they should get free travel for this, but that won't happen. The cruise line won't do it and the people wouldn't take it anyway.

I saw a couple guys on the news who were on the ship that said they will NEVER take a cruise ever again.

The lawsuits have already started and I would actually hope that their medical bills will be included in those.

Give each individual passengers a refund , due to stress , irresponsible duty of care and under the health & Safety Act (Sewerage etc) full medical check up . not only should the passengers get paid refund etc so should the staff on the ship , i bet they would have had to work double shifts , abuse from above and passengers and a lump sum of Stress leave , they also would be effected with shortage of food , Health issues and abuse , stress .Sack the fuck captain without pay for not having plan B to show a duty of care for passengers and his staff . . When a ship goes down its the Captain who is off last , in this case he should of been thrown off 1st .
