Yes, now you can't do anything. Comment over 5 times and get banned for 30 minutes. I was already banned for 24 hours for over commenting.

Hi Rebel_Farmer,

Great observation! The guidelines are indeed being revamped, you can view the current guidelines here: http://www.ask.com/about/community/guidelines

In case you didn't receive it, here's an excerpt from the Ask.com newsletter which was sent this morning.

"We'd like to share some love by saying "thank you" for taking the time to take our survey and for giving us your honest feedback. You told us what you like and dislike and what you'd like to see more/less of. We're not wasting any time with your request to give you more serious questions, better answers, reducing the number of redundant questions, and focusing on quality Q&A. The community guidelines have been updated and the Moderators are ready to help!
What can you do? We're glad you asked! Set a good example by asking great questions, providing awesome answers, and reporting anything that violates the community guidelines. The Moderators can't be everywhere all the time, so please help out whenever you can."

If you have any further questions, or questions about specific content, please don't hesitate to contact the support team, they'd be happy to discuss it with you.

Have a wonderful night!

Report as
I'm just curious as to why my questions were removed, I sent in an e-mail to ask.com, hopefully I will recieve a response..
Report as
@ scottaschultz I have no idea but I'm pretty unhappy with the changes that have been made so far :/

Ditto!

hey tiki...it seems like NO one is happy with these changes....how is that if people asked for them? feels like people just complained about pregnancy test questions and the like, just because they wanted to have something to complain about.
Report as
As with most anything, the majority of what people will actually see is complaints. Most people don't take time to say thanks or give compliments, but support has definitely been receiving a good share of those as well. The decisions are not made by the moderation team, we just work to ensure the rules and guidelines are being followed. Please feel free to send feedback on changes or content to support. They are compiled and considered in regards to future changes.

yes I'm seeing questions banned for absolutely no reason at all, very disappointing to say the least -___-.. If you get an opportunity please e-mail ask.com and let them know that you aren't very pleased with what they are doing, I did, hopefully if enough people make it known to ask.com, things will change but for the better this time.

Yeah. The new rule is that christians can criticize atheists and muslims all they want. But if you say anything bad about christianity, at all, your comment will be deleted.

Wow wow wow take it easy there bro
Report as
woah...calm down...I'm pretty sure that is not why they revamped the guidelines, the questions got too repetitive and the forum became a Hang out forum instead of a Q&A forum, it's original purpose.
Report as
wickedpissah
Yeah, you're right.
The problem I mentioned has always been a rule here. It's not a new thing.
Report as
whatever you say...I'm not stopping you.
Report as
are you saying you have never said hi to someone on here Blue?
Report as
I have, but I try to refrain from doing it because, like I said, I am here to ask and answer questions not to hang out and chat...this was ask's original purpose.
Report as
Wicked I saw your answer last night. I voted for it. There was nothing wrong with it and you were on topic. So someone reported you. If THEY aren't on topic, report em' right back.
Report as
@ Blue_waters, we won't even have an option to chat soon if they keep deleting so many questions :/ some I understand but others I look at and I'm just left shaking my head.
Report as
well...there really is nothing we can do...we brought it upon ourselves, now we have to deal with it and move on.
Report as
wickedpissah
How exactly did we "bring it upon ourselves"?
Report as
well...people kept asking the repetitive questions and started making this a chat forum rather than a Q&A forum, it got on peoples' nerves and ask wants to make this a positive experience for everyone, they have tried many things in the past but it didn't work so they made the guidelines stricter.
Report as
if people don't like the question or comment just move on no need to go crying to the Rulers of the guidelines ..go ahead turn me in for that one too!
Report as
check my last comment under my answer...maybe that will help.

For those doubting my answer: Just the other day someone asked the question" Why are there so much demonic symbolism in todays media?"
The answer I gave was: "Can you give an example, please?"
My answer got deleted.
Seriously. What EXACTLY was wrong with my answer?
I even said "please"!
BUT! I had the audacity to cast doubt upon a religious person, so my perfectly acceptable polite answer got consored by the mods.
Proof.
Report as
I was referring to the "God did it" one. Can't remember now, but I know that it was on-topic..
Report as
wickedpissah
Oh, yeah, like 2 or 3 days ago. I answered "God Did It! God Did It! God Did It!" as an example of a religious person's logic, and that got deleted wicked fast.
BUT, any question, or answer, that bashes either atheists or President Obama, well that stuff gets to stay up forever.
Report as
Yeah, but you also made a good argument at the same time, which is why I noticed and thought it was unfair.
Report as

Yes they put unfair rules

what may seem "unfair" to you may be "fair" to others...that's just how things roll I guess.
Report as
I asked once why wont my wi fi work and it got deleted -_-
Report as
well, that is not really a question that can be thoroughly answered, that is why it got removed.
Report as
Oh ok i think i might understand
Report as
Add a comment...

yeah, you can't really comment over and over again...it is a good thing that they are getting stricter because people are tired of all the redundant"am I pregnant" and "1D or beiber" questions...this was STRICTLY meant to be a Q&A forum NOT a hang out and relax forum. Yes, people won't like it but we pretty much brought it upon ourselves...as for me, I'm staying :)

Helpful (3) Fun Thanks for voting Comments (13)

Me too!
Report as
No thank you Vs. I don't want to go back to "Am I pregnant?" every 10 minutes. But, thanks for the invite!
Report as
Vs...yes, the guidelines are very strict but they did it for a reason, Ask made this forum so that people can ask and answer questions, while having a good time, all the repetitive conversational questions, and statements got on people's nerves...peoples' questions weren't being answered and it made this forum so negative.
Report as
I understand if they get strict about the questions that are being asked but not the comment section were people want to help more and teach others how to do things the perfect way if this is a question and answer app then why not let people fully answer others questions on the comment section with more details
Report as
there is this thing with the comment section that turned into a problem..people got over 122+ comments under one answer and most of it wasn't exactly helping with the question at all, it was mostly conversational and people really didn't get anywhere...so I'm guessing that caused ask to make the guidelines stricter.

I agree Blue. We can still get in depth. Now we will have to slightly space the comments out over time. It's inconvenient, but necessary to stop the chatroom format that comments became. Perhaps once the community is back on track, the limit can increase. Right now, there will be growing pains. I suspect the kids using the site as a chatroom will fade away.
Report as
I'm perfectly cool with the question crackdown. I mean really. "Do you like the color orange?" They aren't outlawing comments, and a little on-topic conversation is fine, but you're right- 122 comments about someone's life or something is out if hand.. But I don't believe in reporting people because you don't agree with them.
Report as
Excellent point Hai.
Report as
@Happy2BeHere2 , very good point! I jus don't want to see so many questions removed for no reason and than not being able to get any explanation from a mod nor the guidlines
Report as
Deana said it well the other night. She hopes everyone will be patient.

I agree. The change is needed, and we all need to take our time to figure it out. That includes the staff and users. We're in transition. It's bound to be bumpy.
Report as
I agree, Happy. This will probably work out for the best, especially if I never see another one direction Q again! Did you know, I had never even HEARD of that stupid band before joining ASK!
