Why should people read books?

Report as

It's like taking your brain to the gym. Plus you learn stuff. But, if you prefer to be a dummy, keep on playing those video games!

Because reading is fun. However, burning books is fun as well. It's all equally fun and exciting.

Only three books have I ever wanted to burn. Frankenstein (the original), A Tale of Two Cities, and Great Expectations. Wanna have a bon fire? :D Lol

Trying to re-enact Farenheit 451???

I agree with Great Expectations... I felt the same about Anna Karenina! They both just went on and on! The stories would've held my attention much more as short stories instead!

Good question....it opens up your mind, and betters up the language which you're reading in.

For several reasons. Reading is great exercise for your mind, like doing push ups for your brain. Reading increases your vocabulary, making you more intelligent. Reading is more healthy than watching tv, it is also a great way to pass down information. Lots of things like history and science can be gained from reading.

You learn not just about the topic of the story, but you learn good grammar and spelling without realizing it. Like the difference between their, there, & they're , and then & than. A favorite quote of mine is "reading gives us a place to go when we have to stay where we are."

It's entertaining. It's informative. Aside from the content the very act of reading stimulates the brain, particularly the language center.

Learning and better understanding. Basically, a book exercises the mind....

Only read books if you want to. Nothing worse than a reluctant reader being forced to do so.

It all depends on the types of books. If its a educational book it's to get smarter. If its a fantasy book, for me it's because it makes me feel like you are part of this new life. That's not ever going to happen to you. It makes me feel like I have a better life, a life I wished for.
