Do you think our communications networks will be affected?

An asteroid is supposed to come pretty close to our planet today... see the link... http://www.foxnews.com/science/2013/02/11/150-foot-asteroid-has-close-encounter-with-earth-this-week/

It's possible ! If it hits any satellites , it will mess things up ! Plus , the radiation and EMP pulse coming from it will make a real mess ! We aren't exactly sure what it is made of and some of the materials in it could be very dangerous to everything ! I think it's a good possibility that something could happen ! Good Question !

Good answer JW, I gotta do all my asking now before it whizzes by and disrupts communications. I hope NORAD knows about this.
Report as
Oh , I'm sure they do ! Norad is supposed to be EMP proof !

Then I guess they let the Russian meteor through un-announced on purpose.

Never figured that one out !

You can't deny completely but chances are almost negligible that it will affect our communications systems.

See MrJohnWaynes comment... also check the link. This rock will breach the orbits of many weather, and communication devices in the junkyard above our stratosphere. Good luck, and may the force be with you.

Well, aijazqurashi... Never disagree with a woman, since we have been gifted with logic which surpasses understanding. Looks like a piece broke off and slammed into Russian territory. I disagree with those who say that one had nothing to do with the other. The next time this rock passes will be the year 2028. I think governments need to work together and chase it down. Then re-direct it's orbit.

Now scientists are trying to catch these heavenly bodies / asteroids in their orbit before they leave it, so as to prevent it from striking the earth. They will catch them in orbit and will bring them on earth or in space labs and will extract valuable metals like gold, uranium, platinum etc. Many scientists have already started their research in this field.

As long as they keep landing them in remote places in Russia, I'm fine!

They always fall but chances are remotest. You can't deny it completely.
