If you think that's the definition of atheist, then this is the definition of christian: someone who can't answer questions, so makes up a fictional character to fill in all the blanks
(which is where it started)

It's more important to believe God than to believe in God.
It's one thing to believe in God and quite another to believe God. Believing in God is no big deal. Everyone believes there is a God, because God has put that knowledge in every person's heart (Romans 1:19). Why, even an atheist believes there is a God. Why else would he try so hard to prove that God doesn't exist? If something doesn't truly exist, you don't spend all kinds of energy trying to prove it. It would be like someone expending a great amount of time and effort to prove that Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny don't exist. If the thing doesn't exist, it just isn't necessary.

Sadly your view of atheists is mistaken. Atheists do not believe there are any gods of any type. Also there is no burden to disprove anything that has itself not been proven.

Not entirely true. There are some religions, Buddhism for example, that don't recognize any gods, and are by definition, Atheistic. But you've got the right concept.
