How to work my self cleaning on my stove

i have a kenmore flat top stove. i can't find the book on it to work the self cleaning on it. i've tried to start it. Can anyone tell me how to set in to clean?

To work your self cleaning on your stove, you need to press the "Self Clean" button. Then, press the up arrow for the panel to indicate the period of time the self cleaning will take place. It will lock on its own and start the self cleaning process.

It doesn't have a self clean button. It has a self clean button. I hit it and set the time and all it did was beep a few times and nothing.
