My dad always threatens to hurt me and my dog. is this abuse? should i take this seriously? he has never done anything before... i need help

you said it he threatens,thats what parents do,punishment is not abuse,you are making him sound bad some day you may be sorry you did and asking advice from a bunch if kids about your family is a bad idea as well,if i was him you wouldn't have a computer

Of course it is! No parent should be threatening to injure their kid or pet. Tell an adult, teacher, or someone close to help you.

i tell my kids I'll stick my foot up their rears. if they're really being obnoxious I'll drop a quarter tell em to pick it and give a boot in the seat.
I used to get beat just to make sure I was paying attention.

It's mentally abusive to say stuff like that to ANYONE nevermind a child.

He is trying to control you and force you into submission by threatening to hurt you the best way he can .. by threatening your dog, who he thinks you care about. He has some serious issues .. and his lack of parenting skills will do more damage than good.

What does your Mom say about all this .. doesn't she come to your defense?

My point exactly, why would he threaten the dog. Probably because its the cause of these arguments or you threaten your dad with the dog.
I'm a father and their sounds like more to this story then what were hearing. Most people giving answers here have not yet had the JOY of raising 3 kids...

You should definitely tell an adult like a school teacher,counselor,principal etc., There is absolutely no excuse for an adult of any relation and age to say those things.Definately abusive .

Telling you that he'd hurt you and your dog is certainly abuse - verbal abuse. It instills fear, and rightfully so, that one day he may follow up with it. You should talk to your school counselor. (And it doesn't matter what you did, if he says that more than once, it's abuse.)

Sometimes, Even parents become over stressed and say things that they might not say as a norm. As a child, when my dad was home from a tour of duty, I would do things just to tick him off for attention because I was a middle child of 7 siblings. Not saying that you do anything like that. I am saying that maybe someone could get involved by relaying to your father that the things that he says about you and your dog bothers you and maybe he could use an intervention or some time to mellow out. It could be related to stresses on the job or bills etc...The important thing is if it bothers you , find a safe way to let him know.

Why would your dad threaten you & your dog. Before we all judge the father why don't we find out what the child has done. Children take pride in pushing their parents buttons so let's see if we are told the whole story befor condemning a father without all the facts. While what the father said may not have been right we do need to be told the whole story
