Can girls answer this please?

I need a girl's advice on something. I'm a 14 year old girl, and I found a tiny, very hard pea-sized lump at the base of my right nipple. I don't know if there's been any record of breast cancer in my family, but my mom has had lots of cysts. I'm just wondering what it could be?

Mom is best at answering this, I would let her check it out. :)

Yeah, I am, and I'm extremely thankful for her. I was completely freaked out because there is a record of cancer in my family, but I just wasn't sure about breast cancer.

I have no idea what it is, but just to be on the safe side, I think you should get that checked out? unless, are you having your period at the moment or anything? It might be related....

I would suggest saying something to your mother if she doesnt like the sound or look of it, go to the doctor to get it looked at.

I'm no doctor. But any obgyn would tell you to have things like that checked. It's better to be safe than sorry. And yes it could very well be nothing to worry about.

Not all lumps are cancerous, but it could be the starting of a tiny cyst. Cysts are not always cancerous, but sometimes they can be. Also, it could be the start of your menstrual cycle.

If the lump is hard, and hurts when you put pressure on it, then it is a cyst. If the lump goes away after your period is done-and-over, then there is nothing to worry about, but if it doesn't go away, then you will need to see a doctor. Make sure that it is soon too, because the cyst can get bigger; you won't want that.

Look for Two very important details...

Is it an irregular shape? (rough edges and spiky).

Is the skin above/around it puckered in or dimpled?

It's important that you to talk to your Mom or School nurse about it even if it isn't. The School nurse can teach you how to do a complete and accurate breast self exam.

I just had my mom check it out and she said there's nothing there to worry about, but thanks. She also told me how to do an accurate one.

This is what my mom told me: lay down and lift one arm over your head, and with your other hand feel for lumps. It should feel like oatmeal, and if it's any different than that, talk to your mom. It turns out that it was nothing for me, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

I asked the same question! I still have a glan swollen in my brest, and i'm turning 14 soon lol. I think it comes with puberty you know, the lady that answered mine said it was normal. If it moves then it's a glan=D Ask your mom though, sounds like she would know best!
