Egypt was the first nation-state. While everybody else lived in villages and city-states, Egypt became the world's first country, or empire or nation-state, whichever you prefer to call it. Other city-states and nation-states have come and gone, but Egypt is still here, obviously not in the same form of govt. though.

China came around in the 1200's, likely the Middle East, or Africa, likely Egypt, as mentioned. I believe one of Egypt's rules was there in 6000 B. C. I don't know about the South American pyramid builders, but as far as I know, those are the oldest civilizations. You can search the internet or look into Wikipedia regarding those I mentioned.
