We saw a bird on our porch shivering like crazy because it was snowing and we took him inside the house is that legal or illegal

We live in Virgina if that helps.

If you were able to catch the bird it is probably sick. That's fine, odds are it will not recover though.

I recovering really fast we put him near the heater and now it started to stretch it wings

Good. To keep it as a pet might be illegal, nobody would really push it though if you helped it though.

I believe you did the right thing! I think first of doing the right thing!! the bird was cold. you're helping it warm up. if it's hungry, you feed it. sorta like human beings. you do the right thing FIRST and later you can deal with all the goofy technicalities...;-)

I had a small bird one time that landed at my feet. I reach down and picked him up. Looking at him I figured it must have been sick as I stroked its head I noticed a tick had enbeded itself in the little birds head. I pulled it out and the bird was soon happy and flew away.
