Why do men have nipples?

I know it's a crude question, but what are they for? Men don't produce milk.

Actually, men can produce milk if stimulated enough. :)

Beyond that, it's a part of the anatomy that's formed in utero before the definitive sex characteristics are determined, so both men and women have them, just like both men and women have estrogen and testosterone in their bodies. Up until a certain point, an embryo or fetus doesn't have any specific sex, just a prototype of either one, basically. The genetics and growth in utero determine what parts the baby has when it's born.

That's weird.

Not really, all the same tissue is there, it just develops differently because of the hormone ratios that are in the body during puberty.

Thanks Marcus!

Because there was no reason for mother nature to delete them in men. Seriously, that's the reason. Only things that prevent you from reproducing successful offspring TEND to disappear in an organism.

Because the sexes are more similar than different. In pigs, it's the boar that determines the number of teats on the offspring.

We started out female,4-6 weeks later ,if the "Y" chromosome is present it changes us to male. The nipples have already developed, and remain.
