Any ideas on what to write about for my history paper?

I am having a mind block. I need to think of some very interesting history topics because I have to write a research paper on it and give a presentation in front of my whole class, and I don't want to bore myself or others. I'm fairly certain that it has to be American history, although I am not sure whether or not it has to be about current events or not. I wanted to do the French Revolution because I read Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly and ever since I have been pretty interested in it, until I realized this is an
American history course. Then I thought of doing fracking, because we did see a documentary on it in science, and it something that is happening now, and so will be interesting to learn about. Any ideas on interesting topics? Last year I did Mayan religion, but we had to choose out of a certain amount of topics and it was very interesting to give a presentation about and to learn about.

Maybe on George Washington, schools don't mention it or teach it anymore.. but if u do ur research, u will find that in the ( i think) French and Indian War... After the battle only 30 people were alive afterwords, and George's shirt was found to have multiple bullet holes in it. Crazy thing was? ... Not one bullet or arrow pierced his flesh.

The Black Tom explosion. July 1916.
This was a terrorist attack on American soil (Jersey City NJ). The Germans were angry that we were helping England manufacture ammunition so they blew it up. President Wilson covered up the cause until after the election because he didn't want to fight in WWI.
