What is the Higgs boson and what is the significance behind/of it?

A.K.A the God Particle right?

Report as

Yes, last year's classical experiment did confirm that the Boson was a fact. Professor Higgs was there in person when it happened, after a life-time of doubts and skepticism. Very roughly, the God Particle is so-called because it is used to make up all the other known particles. Beyond that, everything is just "strings" and we are barely understanding what THEY are, but Higgs Boson is the ultimate particle - at the current state of understanding....

Yes called the God particle, as of yet unconfirmed but they do think they found it, it is a boson with no charge or spin. The higgs boson is important because the standard model predicts its existence, so if it were found the standard model would be fundamentally proven correct... Basically if it were found e would know that or fundamental ideas about the universe and the physics of it were correct.

They confirmed its existence in July 2012, they are studying what it is, and it's signifigance. It could go on for years.
