Where is the line between cartoons and anime?

there's a lot of anime that i would consider cartoons

Report as

Anime just means animation, and ANYTHING animated is technically a cartoon. Therefore anime is a cartoon. In the U.S., any cartoon made in Japan is considered an anime. However, in Japan, the term anime refers to anything that is animated. To them Mission Hill is just as much an anime as Speed Racer is. I never understood why some anime fans want to consider anime as being something other than a cartoon. If it's drawn and animated, it's a cartoon, regardless of it's country of origin.

Country of origin?, drawing style and subject matter. At least that's my opinion :)

Cartoons are in 2D format and anime in 3D! Anime is where the big bucks are too!

Cartoons aren't Japanese, and they're aimed at children. And anime is Japanese, and it's aimed at all sorts of age groups. Also, the drawing style is different.
