A Good Samaritan helps others no matter who they are and no matter what anyone else has to say about it. In other words, they help people instead of judging them, and they don't worry about being judged themselves for doing it.
To be a good person, going out of your way to help someone. its a reference to the Parable in the Bible about a man traveling who got mugged and left for dead. a whole bunch of people passed him and kept going not bothering to help him. but then a Samaritan (a person from Samaria) was walking by and stopped and helped him. He put him up in a hotel and nursed him back to health
If I remember correctly, in the Bible, a man walking between cities, when he was caught, beaten and robbed by roadthieves. People walked by and he asked each for help. None would do so for fear he was a thief. One finally did, and the beaten man was saved. Later, the man who helped was accosted, and the once beaten man came along and threw back the robbers. The one that originally stopped was the "Good Samaritan". I do not recall the story detail for detail, but that was the idea. If you go out of your way to help someone, you too will be helped.
The lessons of the Parable of the Good Samaritan are three-fold: (1) we are to set aside our prejudice and show love and compassion for others. (2) Our neighbor is anyone we encounter; we are all creatures of the creator and we are to love all of mankind as Jesus has taught. (3) Keeping the law in its entirety with the intent to save ourselves is an impossible task; we need a savior, and this is Jesus.http://www.gotquestions.org/parable-Good-Samaritan.html
Luke 10:34-37 " Kneeling beside him the Samaritan soothed his wounds with medicine and bandaged them, Then he put the man on his donkey and walked along beside him Till they came to an inn, where he nursed him through the night. The next day he handed the innkeeper two twenty-dollar bills and told him to take care of the man. If his bill runs higher than that, he said, I'll pay the difference the next time I am here.
