In Crime and Punishment how does Dostoyevsky use characters to criticize society?

I need to know how the author uses the characters in his book to criticize the society he lived in

In Crime and Punishment, Dostoyevsky use character to criticize the society by showing how the position the society puts them in pushes them to do what they regret. An example of such a character is Raskolnikov, who is forced to become a criminal in order to survive. Visit http://www1.umn.edu/lol-russ/hpgary/Russ3421/lesson9.htm for more.
