When my dog does #2 outside somewhere, should I really have to pick it up after he's done?

I find it so annoying and stupid. I mean I'm bringing the dog outside to poop, not to pick it up and flush it or something. in that case I might as well just put the dog on the toilet.

Well...if your dog poops in someone else's yard or a public area, picking it up is the decent thing to do.

Do you live in an apartment building? Or do you have your own yard?

My own yard

If you are talking about cleaning up in your own yard... you don't *have* to. but umm don't you want to use your yard too? It will start to stink pretty bad (esp in summer) and you'd be stepping in it every time you went out after a while. If you mean in public places, it is just the right thing to do imagine if no one ever did, every park and public greenway would be full of doggie droppings, it wouldn't be a very nice place to go for a walk and you certainly want kids playing there or sit down for a nice picnic

The reason you should pick up your dogs #2 is because not only you won't step in it you also will make your yard look nice and if your walking your dog and it does that in someone's yard it would be good to clean it up because they don't want it in their yard also

You bet! It's not only your responsibility as a dog owner, it's just plain common curtesy. Do you want to step in someone else's dog's crap? Do the right thing.

I live out in the country, so I too would find it absolutely stupid.. however.. if you're in an area where even one other person uses or potentially uses the place that your dog has sheet on, it's your responsibility to get rid of it. Show some common courtesy and pick it up.

What do you mean when you say if no one is watching? then it's ok? does that go for every thing in life?
Report as
i know people that check to see if theres other people around. and if nobodys around, they leave the poop there. now me, i would pick it up anyway. referring to the question, should you pick it up? yes. but do you really have to? no

and its a health factor its been proven that if your dog steps in its own poop after a little while it can develop worms and you'll be spending hundreds of dollars on meds just because you don't wanna be bothered to pick up poop for free

If your dog poops in your yard, you can leave it where it falls.
If your dog poops anywhere other than your private property, you MUST (and you WILL) pick it up and take it with you.
It's not just common courtesy, where I live it's the law.

You shouldn't have an animal if your not going to be responsible for it..
So you hadn't been picking it up and someone busted you?
what if someone's animal void where you walk or where your children walk..
Karma dude... Karma!

Would you like to pick up dog poop that does not come from your dog? Well I have to and its usually off my sidewalk. I do not have a dog but my neighbors do. Please explain to me how and why I should be okay picking up someone else's dogs poop?

You don't have to be ok with it, just complain to that person if you want.

That is just more energy I have to put out when I did nothing to deserve it. Why do I have to do this when the owner should be taking better care of their dog?
Report as
I caught a "lady" (using that term loosely) walk her dog into my front yard, let it poo, and begin to walk away... LEAVING THE BIG PILE IN MY FRONT YARD. I did use a little extra energy...but she won't be doing that again...in anybody's yard.
Report as
In my neighborhood first warning is a pile of poo by your front door. Second warning is on the hood of your car. Third is smeared over your car. Only 2 out of 5 have gotten to that stage and they moved shortly after. When being polite didn't work the neighbors resorted to what would get their attention.

You do or not do whatever you want in your own back yard. As for your neighbors yard that's between you and them. But in public areas there may be laws that REQUIRE you to pick up your dog's poo, so, if I were you, I'd find out so you won't be surprised if you are arrested and fined.

It's ok to leave it for people to walk in? There were laws enacted because there got to be so many people like you it became a health issue. Dog poop contains things that can spread disease to humans. You wanted a dog this is part of the responsibility of owning a dog. Be glad you don't live near me. In my neighborhood if you get caught you are likely to find the poop on your front door step or smeared on car handles. The neighbors got tired of cleaning up after the few.
