What is the difference between an Asteroid and a Meteorite?

A meteor is an asteroid that enters Earths atmosphere, a meteorite is a meteor that hits the surface of Earth.

Asteroids are about 4 times bigger on average. Asteroids are made of rock. While meteorites are made of iron and stone.

Asteroids are HUGE. Meteors are smaller and a Meteorite is a meteor that hits Earth's surface.

And asteroid is in space, a meteor is in the atmosphere, and a meteorite is on the surface of the earth

Meteorite - A meteoroid that survives its passage through the Earth’s atmosphere and impacts the Earth’s surface.
In summation, an asteroid is a relatively small object out in space. When an asteroid breaks through our atmosphere and burns up, it becomes a meteor. If the asteroid manages to get all the way through our atmosphere and actually hits the surface of the planet, it is classified as a meteorite.
