Is it bad to not believe in God?

In some cases, I feel as if I'm forced to believe in God by my parents. Though, is it bad to not believe in him? Also, is it bad that I don't much about the bible, etc?

Report as

No, it's not bad to not believe in god. I don't see anything wrong with it and I don't see why anything would be wrong with it. I'm an atheist myself. You have to realize something about bad and good. Not one person can ever be good. Religion tells you how to be good. This is impossible. Being good is a learning process. We can BECOME BETTER people but we will never be fully good. There's nothing wrong with being an atheist or whatever you want to call yourself. Do you have any reason to believe? No? Then don't.

You should believe what you want to believe in, and that's it. You shouldn't feel unsure about yourself, and don't let other people influence your beliefs. Find your own reasons to really pursue a religious belief. It's not bad to not believe in God, plenty of people don't. Also, if you're just not religious, that's fine too. Religion isn't a necessary thing in life.

What is bad is being forced to believe something that you don't truly believe in yourself. Don't let anyone dictate to you what you must believe. There is no preset requirement for you or anyone to worship a certain way, or even at all.

No, everyone has the right to believe in what they want to believe in (as long as it doesn't cause harm to others...) but not believing in god is fine because everyone has different beliefs.

It's got nothing to do with being Christian or not. I'm not putting this person down. It's our beliefs as told to us by God in the bible. I'm not going against my faith so people feel better about themselves. That would be a disservice to them and mystic. Get over it!

Then perhaps the questioner should not ask questions they (wait for it) already know the answer to. If you don't like it you can just skip over instead of arguing, which is what these questions are intended to do. You and I do not see eye to eye. Doesn't bother me a bit, but it seems to upset you, sorry about that. I will not deny my beliefs so you feel better. And if you were truly satisfied in your lack of beliefs you wouldn't argue so much with those who do believe. It doesn't even make sense. I don't believe in big foot, and I do not seek out and argue with those who do haha! Why bother?

It is very bad to not believe in God. If you deny Him He will deny you. If you do not believe in God , you will not go to Heaven. It is the most important thing in life to be saved so that you believe that Jesus is the son of God and Jesus died on the cross for our sins. If you are not saved or do not get saved , you can not go to heaven. God and Jesus are our saviors. There is no being forced believing in Him is a choice. I hope you find him and accept him into your heart and soul! I am a very strong Christian and I hope you become one too-I have faith in you.

God loves all of us, but if he wants to send non-believers down to Hell, then he can, but honestly... it's just cruel. If we don't want to believe in God, he should still respect our decision. The kind of God that will throw you in Hell if you don't believe in him, is not a great God at all. Don't let anyone force you to become a Christian; ignore them, if you need to. Shoving Christianity down anyone's throat, is not being a Christian at all. Real Christians will respect other people's beliefs, and they won't try to discourage you from becoming what you want to become. Plus, judging people is not being a Christian. Anyhow... I'm getting off-topic. I don't even read the bible, 'cause it's all full of theories and some lies.

each person needs to answer that for themselves. personally, i am a Christian. so is my middle child. my oldest child has some beliefs of a god, but different from mine and my other children. my youngest does not believe in any god unless it is beneficial to him ( he gets something for a temporary belief). my aunt and her daughter are overly Christian and highly judgmental. each person believes something different. we cannot be forced, or allow ourselves to be bullied or influenced into beliefs that are not our own. my eldest and i studied and learned about Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, druidism, atheism, etc. as well as the different versions of Christianity when he was an older teen when he started to question the Christian religion. i felt it best to study with him to help him weed out propaganda from true studies. my child followed the religion that was correct for what was right for them, i stayed with what felt right for me.

John 3:16-17

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

Your choose you decide.

Not really. God does not require you to believe in Him. I'm assuming you're not Jewish. In that case, all that God requires of you is to follow the Noahide laws, and believing in God is not one of them. (Also if you're Jewish belief in God is not one if the 613 Commandments.) The coveted prize that God gives the righteous is to have a part in the World to Come - the Olam Ha'ba. The criteria that God uses for that is how you keep the Noahide laws, and God does not care if you believe in Him or not, He only cares about your basic human decency and that you do not commit blasphemy or idolatry.

Think of it this way. Once you make the decision to believe in a god, you are rejecting the gods, and the associated teachings, of all other religious traditions. And as you intimated, the most prominent reason any believer believes in his or her particular god is because he or she is responding to cultural or familial expectations. It seems prudent to withhold a commitment to belief until you are absolutely certain you are making the right decision. And a right decision could very well be "none of the above".

Of course not. Believers are taught that whole "risk versus reward" thing, and subscribe to it, while non-believers reject that line of thought and choose a freer way of thinking.
If you are a believer, you are taught that rejection of belief is wrong, and it falls under the "risk" category.

Actually you might say its the other way around. 99.8% of the prison population believes in god. If only 0.2% of the prison population doesn't believe in god that is very telling, statistically, about the likelyhood you are doing wrong by believing in god. In other words- atheist are less likely to be criminals. I would say, the safe bet is to not believe in god- but its also more fun on Sundays.

No, it is not a bad thing to not believe in god, and don't let anyone tell you that it is. Your beliefs are your choice, no one else's. Don't let anyone try to shove their religion down your throat, and don't get discouraged by threats of Hell. Stand up for what you believe, for it is your choice, and people should be able to accept that. And if I am wrong somehow(which I doubt beyond belief) and there is a god, he wouldn't be so malicious as to torture you just for not believing in him.

"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." Hebrews 11:6
Must believe that he is - That God exists. This is the first thing required in worship. Evidently we cannot come to him in an acceptable manner if we doubt his existence. We do not see him, but we must believe that he is; we cannot form in our mind a correct image of God, but this should not prevent a conviction that there is such a Being. But the declaration here implies more than that there should be a general persuasion of the truth that there is a God. It is necessary that we have this belief in lively exercise in the act of drawing near to him, and that we should realize that we are actually in the presence of the all-seeing Jehovah.

It depends on what you mean by the word "bad." The biblical definition for "good" is moral excellence; virtue. It is a positive quality and expresses itself in the performance of good and beneficial acts toward others. The "others" in this case would also include our heavenly Father. In the garden of Eden the lying propagandist, Satan the Devil, slandered Jehovah God the Creator. In contradicting God?s warning about the tree of the knowledge of good and bad, this one slandered his Creator, making God appear to be a liar. He is therefore rightly called the Devil, as that word is drawn from the Greek term dia'bolos, meaning, false accuser, misrepresenter, slanderer.? In light of this information how would a scripturaly "good" person react? Better than any other man, Jesus understood this vital issue. In the model prayer, he taught his followers to ask first for his Father's name to be sanctified, next for his Father's Kingdom to come, and then for God's will to be done on earth. (Matthew 6:9,10) Such was the mark of a "good" person.

so i guess you can say i believe in god but i don't lock myself to a specific religion.
At the end if i am "good" i will make the right choice and if i am bad i made the wrong choice.
