Do you think child pageants are wrong?

Like in toddlers and tiaras. DO you think it is morally wrong?

Report as

Personally, I think they are ridiculous and the parents are crazy. They aren't doing it for the kids...they're doing it for themselves.

Report as
Hi friends. You can't tell me those toddlers are comfortable in all that make up, hairspray, wigs and stiff clothes. Mommy, mommy, can we do a pagent today?
Report as
The moms always "claim" the kids love it and if they didn't want to do it they wouldn't force them....yeah right
Report as
I'm sure SOME of them truly love it.....but definitely not ALL of them.....Honey Doo-Doo.....Thanks Mona!!! 8)

I agree I believe many of the mothers are just living through their children.

Yes. It's ridiculous. There's no need to exploit a kid like that.

THANK YOU! I think they send wrong messages about what is important in life!

Putting that kind of pressure on children is wrong. Rewarding them for how they look is wrong. Encouraging them to compete and judge others based solely on physical standards is wrong and undermines their self esteem. They also feel a sense of entitlement. The real damage that these competitions is doing won't be seen for another 10 years and then it will be devastating.

Yes! I totally agree about the pressure, and I think people should be rewarded on the kindness of there hearts and their wiliness to help others. Also their behavior and how they do in school. Not things they can't help like beauty. And some adults on some of those shows call some little kids ugly or like "doesn't have that natral pretty face." I think every kid is pretty!
Report as
YES....no child should be subjected to that

Psh, look what happens to them like 10-15 years down the road! Of course they're horrible. The parents end up getting crazy competitive, the kids don't have a childhood, are raised around wacko nut parents and environments, and turn out to be brats when they're older. :o

There are ridiculous and shouldn't be allowed, let alone encouraged by people televising it like they do. Do you know they make them wear fake teeth(called "flippers") so they look more like adults. It's just wrong and creepy and quite disturbing if I do say so myself. I'd be fine with it if it were a small thing just for fun, but the lengths people go to in these pageants are just disturbing. *Shudder*

Yeah! Honestly I think kids should be kids and have their crooked teeth and stuff I think that makes them cute! Rather than perfect fake teeth at that age.

Stupid period. I have a cousin on my moms side who's been doing that crap since she was 6 and actually is almost famous. She acts like she's better than everyone though and I'm like "ok big deal woo hoo" and she's like "your stupid you know that" with all the stuff I wear and music I like I am discriminated from my cousins on my moms side cuz their popular and think im the stupidest person and weirdest person they've ever met. I seriously hate her. I heard on child beauty pageants some moms will put fake breasts on their children.

As I much as I hate modern day and mainstream rap and popular music and ICP, Boondox, Twiztid, ABK, Blaze are the only good rap I listen to I love Boondox cuz I'm Southern and redneck and country boy and his music speaks to me. One say at a family party with all my cousins on my moms side I blared out Boondox on my iPod and my cousins were like "that is the stupidest rap I've ever heard in my life" I immediately flipped out and said "I hate your Sh!t you call music but you don't hear me calling it stupid do you?" and surely her mom came in and saw me yelling in her face and my cousin grabbed my hatchetman necklace and said "I can take this and ruin your life with it" and I grabbed her hand and squeezed it as tight as I could and said "If you ever touch my hatchetman again I will make sure your not gonna be in fine shape for your next little miss b!tch pageant" and she acted like a baby and cried (she's 14) and I did not intend on hurting her I was in a confusing situation and I'm 95.7 autistic my mind functions differently than normal. Now my cousins think I'm a gang member cuz they looked up Juggalos and a lot of people think Juggalos are a gang and they think all my psychopathic records memorabilia is gang apparel. I swear I hate my cousins on my moms side so much they literally want me to attack them so I can get in trouble for life or something and they do it for drama they can't live without it it's to f'''ing stupid why bring drama with family I mean seriously are they that stupid.

Your cousins obviously are the ones with issues here. she should never have been instigating a fight. im not surprised that she did though-typical brat causing drama. what does surpise me (though maybe it shouldnt) is how her mom acted, grabbing your necklace and threatening you is seriosuly messed up!!! maybe your reation wasnt great but it was certainly justified. how often do you have to see these people?? theyre ridiculously immature. Im impressed with you tho, for being aware of how you think and act. they put you in a really unfair position that nobody could really react well to.

I only see them like 12 times a year. This was back at a Christmas party a few months ago and I just bought my first hatchetman necklace at the time too. I've been a juggalo since 7th grade and my hatchetman necklace really means a lot to me it's basically one of the one things I can't live without I mean I could it's just that it's one of those things you cherish with your life and plan on keeping it for life. They think a guy with a Metallica shirt on wearing cargo pants and round toe boots and a hatchetman and a black cowboy hat is stupid to them. Whatever the things I wear express myself it's all there. I wear my cowboy hat a few times but I wear a gears of war hat a lot or my Psychopathic records snap back or my army hat. The boots I wear when I'm working or just trying to look sharp. I bet if they ever yelled that or did that to someone at GOTJ (Gathering Of The Juggalos) festival they would've gotten a souvenir to remember and one funny as hell story to tell.

Absolutely. They teach kids that beauty is something they have to strive for, fake for, cheat for. It teaches them that its all about looks and winning. Honestly, there isnt much good that can come out of the pageants. parents go completely overboard and brainwash their childen, dressing them like mini adults. kids are supposed to get dirty and run around!! Its all wrong.

Yeah I think that kids should get to be kids, not be forced into pageants even when parents say the kids want it, most times the kids don't want it and you can easily tell.

Yes!!! Nobody should be putting their child into that type of exposure. And imagine the girls who don't win... how insecure do you think they feel, or even depressed...

See that is what i think! They are old enough to know they are being judged on there beauty and if they loose, then they get a horrible message.

I don't think so. I look at them as a hobby, nothing else. I don't think it's degrading or ridiculous, they're just fun and competition.
