What did the ancient Chinese do with mentally handicapped people?

They made sure that they took over their financial affairs and they were declared unfit to make sound decisions. They were often referred to as simpletons or fools. If they committed any sort of crime, they would be locked up just like any other culprit.

A lot of times they were "taken out", but you will also have the cases where the family cares for that person, but they look down on them greatly.
