Why do we have to wear green on ..(read on)..

why do we have to wear green on st. Patrick's day? just wondering ;)

Report as

Well its because of the little conflict that happened back in Ireland between religious groups. The Protestants were Red and The Catholics were green actually i think its vice versa. now its because to sell inventory on green items so people can celebrate that holiday and so the stores can make money. Frankly they need to bann the hole pitching if you arent wearing green its rather rude! if you are wearing something that is close it should be fine.

Ya got your colours mixed up! Red is for the Italian flag not Irish.

Catholics green, Protestants orange

my memory is a bit fuzzy so i tend to mix things up for not remember certian things. i knew the other group had to be some color.

Actually the celebration has nothing to do with the "conflict". I am not Catholic (but members of my family are), I purposely wear blue on that day. When people comment I remind them they are not celebrating St Patrick rather the art of getting drunk.

Thanks ;) and yes it is rude lol they should change that totally ... I agree ;)

Your welcome =) things would be so much better if they changed it. =)

@thistle
really? its the art of getting drunk that they are celebrating? it must be just another american excuse for drinking then if thats why they celebrate.

well, that's because businesses want an excuse too sell green related items too make more money, as is valentines day, black friday, pie day, frozen yogurt day and all that other stuff.

dont buy a green shirt you get pinched at school teens will go and spend $ on clothing

the st patricks day we have created has nothing too do with what it originally was.

Because Ireland is called the Emerald Isle and St Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland.

It's an Irish holiday, and in Ireland green is their main color.

Saint Patrick's Day was created by American business men. It was not celebrated in Ireland as anything other than a saints day until the 80's. FYI all saints have an assigned colour Saint Patrick's is a shade of blue! Plus he was on the Isle of Iona before he going to Ireland. Did anyone know he was originally Roman?
