What should I do? (see below for details)

There is a girl who I like in a couple of my classes in High School that I have been meaning to ask out for a while. Unfortunately I am very confused by her actions and I am the type of guy who likes to be absolutely sure to avoid rejections. Often during class, I catch her staring and smiling at me and she sometimes laughs at my stupid jokes. However, if I say an off-topic tidbit like "We have a lot of homework due tomorrow", she will almost always tell me to stop complaining - which I have absolutely no idea what that means. Also, she (to her friends) have mentioned that "I (the girl) needs to stop being mean to him (me)." Lastly, a few days ago it was Valentine's Day, and I wanted to see how things would play out, so I didn't make any move. Unfortunately, she walked into the class carrying a rose, but then proceeded to tell everyone that she didn't have a valentine, it was just a guy being nice to her. Despite that, she still carried it around all day, so I almost gave up hope until later she poked me with a pen and asked whether or not I had a valentine. I said no, and that was the end of the conversation. I am super confused by her actions. What should I do?

You can ask her out with confidence. She staring at you means she likes you and if she rejects you, there is no reason to be hurt. There is no reason to love someone if they don't love you back, otherwise there is no point of a relationship.

Well with the rose, imagine how mean it would be to throw it away after someone was nice enough to buy it. Plus flowers are nice
