That was his proposal during the State of the Union address. That would severely dampen jobs because small businesses won't be able to afford workers at that rate so the likelihood of that happening are slim. He can propose whatever he wants to appeal to his voting base. That doesn't mean he'll get it.
No. He is not king and cannot make new laws. He is pushing for the $9 and his followers will most likely go along with this job killing law. He should just go all the way and say we should all make $30 per hour, the rich and the poor alike. That way we can all be equal, at least until there are no businesses left that are willing to pay low information voters and people with zero skills that crazy wage. Soon all businesses will "shrug".
I don't mind paying minimum wage to high school students. But what irks me is paying adults with families minimum wage and I have never done such. I took the time to find the best people for the job, and I will treat them as such. If you actually know how to run a business, paying your workers well and giving them full benefits isn't such a big deal. Happy employees leads to a healthier business. They stay loyal and give you their best 10 to 20 years down the road. Imagine if places like Google or Intel paid minimum wage to the majority of it's workers.
