What do I do if my windows are tinted too dark?

I just got my windows tinted on my Toyota corolla on Saturday, got all 5 windows tinted and it's 18%? that's what the tint shop owner recommended I get. I told him I don't want them too dark but also not too light..I keep looking at my car and the tint looks alot darker than it did on the display board. I didn't think he would recommend something so dark that I may get a ticket but I don't know anything about window tinting. don't know if they might lighten up a little after a couple more days or what, I'm nervous and scared I may get pulled over? I live in California....what do I do?

Tint will fade somewhat in time. If the installer didnt put in a tint darker then legally allowed you'll be fine. Some officers could harass you about it. I've had that happen. I was even ticketed once but was able to prove it was legal so the ticket was dropped. If you're going to be using or doing illegal activities in your car I'd suggest you remove it. Or better yet. Don't do anything illegal

AFAIK ... window tinting is actually a film applied to the window. They should be able to remove the film, and put a lighter one on.

California Highway Patrol's website on window tinting http://www.chp.ca.gov/html/answers.html In my experience, it's the front window tints being too dark that gets you pulled over. The officer will often cite the safety risk and his inability to perform their duty of making sure your seat belt is on or if you're talking on a cell phone.

Next time you are at the doughnut shop, simply ask a cop to check it
Then you will know if its to dark.

Cops have a card that they place on inside of the window to determine
The % of the tint
If it is too dark
It will not pass inspection .

Wow. Never knew that

Been there done that
And when you remove tint from a window- as I had to do -
I challenge ANYONE
To remove all the sticky goo
From the window
I have tried everything
Gas, alcohol, goo be gone,
And I still have a haze on the windows
That will never come off-

Sheldon ... try paint remover (I've used citrus spray-on paint remover) or "naval gel". I've used both, successfully. The trick is to let them sit for 24 hours. Be sure to tape around the window, to protect your vehicle's paint though.

Probably won't work for you, now.
Just for future reference.
