Begin by reading the entire bible, when you're done, if still want to continue, come back and ask this question again. What ever you do don't just take someone else's word for it, too many don't know the details of their own religion and are being spoon fed the shiny, happy tidbits. Remember "If you don't program your own mind the world will do it for you."
Buy a Bible and read it...you don't have to worry about all the old testament names...just know the stories and form for yourself an opinion on what those stories mean to you about who God is and who Jesus is....then set on a mission to find a church that holds those same beliefs. Once you find such a church, get Baptized.
Ask Christ to come into your life. Confess your sins and ask for forgiveness. Start reading the Gospels. Pray for understanding of Gods word. If you get stuck in the Gospels, start with Genesis. It explains alot of words and phrases. But get to know Christ. Join a bible study too. God bless!!
Just believe in The Lord do things for people with out expecting anything in return try fallow the ten commandments and when the day of judgment comes repent your sins !!! I've read a good portion of the old and New Testament and that's what I got from it cause you were born to sin so learn how to forgive and you shall be forgiven you don't need to go to church to have The Lord in your life he lives in your heart
It doesn't matter what you believe. What matters is how it affects how you treat others. Try to be more Christ-Like than Christian. I'm not Christian myself, but I use the story of Jesus as an example. Treat all others with compassion. ESPECIALLY those who do wrong by you.
Start reading and researching religions. Don't just settle on one path or take others word for it. It's a very complex subject. Quite interesting as well. The more you research the more correlations you'll find between science and religion. There is room for both.
Do not read the bible like you read any other book. Start at mathew mark luke and john. Read the new testament the read it again. Then you will understand what will be expected of you as a follower of christ. Pray for understanding of gods word. God bless.

One of the first things to do is decide whether or not you believe in the trinity (the Triune God -- "one God in three co-equal entities"). Once you have figured that out, you can choose from any of the applicable denominations and sub-denominations listed under Torcowish's answer. Or go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Denominations#Nontrinitarian_groups for the full list.
Read the entire bible, as cal said, and think about life and religion long and hard before you make any decisions. Don't just some one's word for it, make your own opinions. If you still want to be Christian after that, find a church you like, or just don't go to church, plenty of people do that, trust me. And please don't become one of those bible-thumping lunatics who tells everyone that they'll go to hell if they don't worship god.
You should start with only what the bible says, an find a church that follows exactly that! There are many churches that are man made and do not follow the bible. Be careful when you choose where to go! May God bless you and help you make the right decision :)
P.s. I personally go to a Church of Christ, and I know that these churches (excluding some that, sadly, bear the name, but not the way) strictly follow the gospel and are very open hearted and kind, and will welcome any visitor with open arms!
Learn about other religions first. You can't properly make the claim that Christianity is right if you don't know anything about other religions. First, you have to know about other religions. Then, when you still feel that Christianity is right, then you can go to Christianity. After that, you research the history of the Bible and learn what the actual history of it is, not the so-called fake history Christians claim. Then, you read the Bible. After you read the Bible, you discover through the Bible what it takes. Most Christians aren't even Christians. They're just people with lack of knowledge who were raised to believe in this and have never challenged themselves.
I recomend you begin by knowing what Jesus went through for you. Read Isaiah 53.
You begin by getting to know Jesus. Get to know how He is, what He likes and what He doesnt like, how He deals with things. I was raised in religion, so I knew a few things, but I didnt became a christian until I was 17 years old when I read the gospels of Matthew and John and I felt the feelings that the disciples felt. After that, I read the first letter of John. That s a pretty abundant guide for how a christian should be. Galatians 5 and Romans 1 will tell you good things and bad things. But I read Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1st and 2nd of Samuel, 1st and 2nd of Kings before reading the gospels. So I knew what they said when they refered to the prophets. You dont have to read those books before the gospels, but they would help you understand things mentioned in the gospels. Gby
I would say start with reading the Gospels, but the Bible as an entirety is important. Also, don't be afraid to research the history of it as well, as with today, the Bible is contextual. Above all else, remember to search for a relationship with God, not a religion. Happy studying and God bless.
In James 4:8 you'll find God's answer, "Draw close to God, and he will draw close to YOU. Cleanse YOUR hands, YOU sinners, and purify YOUR hearts, YOU indecisive ones." It's clear that God wants us all to get closer to him by reading his word, the Bible, and practice what we learn from him. If we do so, He will draw closer to us as well; just as in any relationship, the more time spent getting to know each other, the closer both individuals will feel and their relationship will grow. I hope this helps.
In harmony with anp1215's answer, consider what the Bible says at James 4:8 "Draw close to God and he will draw close to you." In order to draw closer to him, we must "take in ACCURATE knowledge." (John 17:3) You can do so by reading the Bible daily. If you find it difficult to understand, you can always visit this link to ask for a free home Bible study:
To grow in Christ means to grow in our faith in Christ. To grow in Christ we need to renew our minds. To renew our minds, we need to read, understand, and trust God through the Word of God. As we read, understand, and trust the Word of God, we need to regularly focus on Jesus Christ.
That's a good question. At 1 Timothy 2:4, we learn that God's "will is that all sorts of men should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth." How can you find accurate knowledge? Since there are so many dominations, how can you tell if it is the true religion?
Here are some scriptures that can help:
1) True worshippers respect the Bible as God’s Word. — 2 Timothy 3:16, 17 2) The true religion honors God’s name, Jehovah. — Matthew 6:9 3) True Christians preach about God’s Kingdom. — Matthew 24:14 4) Jesus’ followers are no part of this wicked world. — John 17:16 5) True Christians have outstanding love for one another. — John 13:34, 35
I like the bible called NIrV( the small r Means a gradeschool kid can understand it!) NIV is the New International Version! Read the front of the Bible that tells about that teanslation! Then read the book of John/ then read 1John. Then Genesis/ then Hebrews/ then Revelation. Pray to God thru Jesus: asking for forgiveness of your sin(romans says we all have sinned and come short of Gods perfection) John 3:16-17 says for WHOSOEVER brlieves on Him shall not perish but have Everlasting life! But you must admit your are a sinner -- and this must come from your heart--- not just your understanding (mind)of scripture! Ask Jesus to come into your life(heart). Thank Him for your Salvation! Praise Him everyday. Be thankful unto Him and bless his nAme! Jesus said:"i am the way, the truth and the life- no one comes to the Father except thru Me. The way is narrow( wide opening-narrow door) Behold i stand at the door and knock! Jesus does not push His way into your like.... He waits for you to ask him in! I hope you are serious !
Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these will be given to you. God is not far from you. Many here have told you to read the bible for yourself, and I agree with that. A lot of answers state to start in the Gospel, and I agree, but I would start in the book of John then go to Matthew then read through the gospels. Read the version that is the easiest for you to understand. If you have any questions just ask. Here is a link to save under your favorites:
Read a chapter of the Gospel of John each day, spend a few minutes talking to God. Prayer is simply talking to God. He is a Person. Thank Him for things. Confess sins. Ask Him for needs, including help getting to know Him. Spend time meeting with other Christians, the genuine kind who will love and accept you. Ask about a good church. Try several. Try to share your experience with others. You can find some tools at www.navigators.org.
