When does ortho-tri cyclen lo birth control become effective?

I take ortho-tri cyclen lo birth control. I started taking it on a Monday. I had started my period on the Friday before and ended on the Tuesday after I started taking the pill. Does this effect when it starts being effective? I got all through the white pills yesterday morning and started the light pills this morning. Are they effective yet, do I need backup forms of protection, etc?

If you have finished taking all the pills in the first package you should be protected :)

Ortho-tri Cyclen birth control pills are effective as soon as you complete the first dosage prescribed. However, depending on your body type, they may not be effective immediately. Therefore, you should get expert advice from a doctor before taking the pills.
