I'm biting my fingers.

WARNING: This is a gruesome question. I often chew my fingers, the skin, the nails. The skin peels and bleeds. I think it's called dermatophagia. I need some ways to stop myself from chewing the skin because it looks really bad and gross. Any help?

That's a hard habit to break. First thing you should always have nail clippers and hand lotion available, to keep rough edges clipped and soft, so as not to tempt you. Then you just have to go cold turkey and not let yourself do it. You really have to be strong. I had this habit as a kid and a teen and it was hard to stop even when someone commented on it and embarrassed me one day. Don't worry about messing up sometimes, just keep at it. Once your hands become smooth and healed, the compulsion is not nearly as bad, but you gotta hang in there.

Go see your doctor about it. Some people that do this may have an anxiety condition and he can help you with that. Otherwise it might just be an odd habit so yeah try to find something else to take it's place if you can

i would use some anti bite stuff. ( i dont know what it is called) but you could try to put something bitter on them.

But it's not the taste, it's the sensation.
