What kind of books do kids like?

My friend is a teacher and all she can ever talk about is choosing books. She teaches 8th graders. What are some good books?

Some times they like action, sci-fi, non-fiction, realistic fiction, and fiction books.

I was going to say the Giving Tree until I saw 8th graders. 'Hatchet' is an awesome book. It's written by Gary Pulsen.

http://www.mrgibbs.com/bhs/inderead/books.html is a link to my English teacher's book list. I don't think he would mind if you took a few from the list. We're 9th graders btw. These are independent reading books so a lot of them aren't that well known or popular.

Also be sure to have the kids read Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin! It's totally age-appropriate and has great messages for 8th graders.
