Is screaming music hated by people who are very serious with religion? Same with cutting, is there anything against that in the bible?

do serious religious people strongly disagree with that type of music and that choice of living style? would they shut out a person like that from a church? if they dressed in all black with tattoos and peircings?

It's not a humans job to judge. Doesn't it say that in the bible? I do however, imagine a "new new testament" to come out sometime soon, with even more absurd rules and regulations. Maybe even including those things you listed.

Good one Cj. It does seem like religion is headed that way.

The Old Testament specifically outlaws tats and piercings. This would include cutting, which you shouldn't be doing in the first place. If you feel the urge to cut, definitely see a psychiatrist sooner than later because something would probably be wrong with you mentally. I say that in a caring way...absolutely not in a judgemental way. Cutting usually stems from a desire to feel something when your brain isn't allowing you to feel anything. A psychiatrist would be able to help you with that. As for music, people have their own tastes....I'm listening to a group called Sick Puppies right now...with, you guessed it, screaming.

Sick Puppies aren't a "screamo" band.

Maybe not....but now I'm listening to In Flames

I'm going to see the band "Ghost" in a few months and, while they don't scream, I'm sure the Church wouldn't appreciate the Satanic lyrics....my point being it's the content, not the way the message is delivered!

Sick Puppies isn't satanic either.

Have you heard of "Hatebreed"? They aren't screamo, but you may like them all the same. Look up their song "Destroy Everything". :)

Okay, I'm a Christian with tattoos, I absolutely love wearing black, I have few piercings and I attend an awesome church with many wonderful friends, I haven't yet come across anyone that I feel has judged me for it but if they do then that's their problem not mine, God looks at the heart altho the bible does say to abstain from the appearance of evil, I'm sure some ppl may see it that way and as for cutting, now that's just self abuse, God wont judge U for it but I'm sure it grieves Him, if U are cutting yourself cause of some issues then I would advice U to seek some help. Oh yeah, I love 12 Stones, a Christian band that has a lot of "screaming."

I'm not too sure about serious religious people, of their answers are yes, then maybe they are more Pharisee than spiritual.
I would not judge you or kick you out. I'd check out your tatts. I wear all black & have tatts. I would help you with cutting. & my husband loves heavy metal, & he loves Jesus. Peace.

I'm not religious at all and come from a background of drug abuse, still condone some of it, and I used to hang out with goth and emo kids. I don't like cutting and I think it's stupid. I'd sooner encourage you to use hard drugs and then you will know what it means to fight to survive and cutting will become just something to avoid. I say listen to whatever music you want but I hate country music. You are actually more likely to be welcome in a church, with cuts on your arms, than you would be at my place. I admire good sense and affiliate myself with people that mean serious business- not lollipop goth cutting fads. If your looking for a support group though I'd look out side of the church- all that's in there is delusions, lies and greedy perverts.

All churches? You are positive that all churches are full of delusions, lies, and greedy perverts? Guess what? Not all of the "outside of the church" is so great. You might be a wonderful, outstanding individual, but outside of church has its share of delusions, lies, and greedy perverts. If a person finds a church like you've described, you need to get away as quickly as possible. God is not in that church

Hi Truth, I fully respect your honesty & raw reality. Peace.

@ Serious, its an individuals choice to be delusional, lie & perve, you're right in saying that. But the church needs to hold to a certain rapore, may I say, be a shining example.

ShayJay, I agree a church needs to be a shining example. As I said, if you find yourself in a church such as Truth has described, then get out!!! There are many churches that are full of wicked, self-serving people - I will agree. But, not all of them are. I am just stating my opinion that not all churches are bad. Truth is welcome to state his opinion, as he has. Believe it or not, I usually enjoy Truth's comments and agree with him. This is one area I do not. I am merely pointing out for anyone that reads this that there are good churches.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. What really gets my attention is those who feel that because you don't have the same opinion as theirs, you're intellectually inferior. @truthobvious, you're right, there are some very self serving churches, to out it mildly. @seriously..you are absolutely right, outside the church doors is nothing to brag about, to out it mildly.

Thanks, Tommy! I just know that although there are churches with faults, outside church is definitely not better.

N1la- I'm not exactly saying cutters are stupid- I'm saying cutting is a stupid decision made by people vulnerable to self destructive indoctrination. I just have a hard time trusting anyone that might at any moment be triggered to self destruct. It's not that they are stupid- they just clearly don't have much control of their own minds. Being influenced by media and chatter of others to hurt yourself is not intelligent. Notice how not even chimps cut themselves- they have better sense than that.
Report as
Thx shay- I think sheep should grow horns before they walk into a church because we have been seeing increasing numbers of wolves in Shepard's clothing. These predators have a practiced wit with controlling the confused and vulnerable and a perfect position. I'd take my chances with gangsters and burn outs.

Well I know a kind quite gentle girl I hang with alot that like Screamo for whatever reason and I'd say she is the usual Sunday school girl just more sweat better voice more kind and more into it. However 2 things must be clear. Music should have purpose and so whiney songs about how "ohhhh wahhhh I lost my boyfriend so I'm just gonna drink cause I miss him and I don't have any control of my actions so I'm gonna call him cause I'm annoying and whiney and meh meh..." Are songs you should think about why you listen to them. They cloud your judgement and these days that's not what we need. Anyway I wouldn't listen to it cause its not my style but as long as you are getting something and aren't getting poisoned by something bad you should be fine. As for cutting... We are Gods Temple and shouldn't bring harm to it.

The bible says that stoning is a legitimate form of punishment. If you are looking for some moral code, the bible is the wrong place. Whether a person is allowed or not by a group of people depends on 2 things. First is the action or event culturally acceptable Second does the group have the power to enforce their code. The answer to these questions will determine the result. As for cutting, don't be a moron. There is so much opportunity in this life and you CHOOSE to self-mutilate? All you are doing is allowing others to pass you in the highway of life.

The stoning was a form of corpral punishment in the OT.
In NT it was the romans stoning the Christians!
The Christians were the compassionate people( lived like Jesus).

There is nothing specifically against cutting in the bible but cutting is an serioys, unhealthy, self-injurious behavior that is a symptom of deeper psychological issues. Because we ARE told we are not to cause harm or to hate (including ourselves) cutting would be unBiblical.
As for 'screaming' music it depends on if its Christian or secular. There are a few uber-traditionalists who have chosen to impose their personal likes and dislikes on God and insist that anything besides hymns sung slowly are 'unGodly'. But truely the Bible actually advocates 'making a NOISE unto God', with 'LOUD singing' and 'dancing' and loud music. Any song, as long as it is sung to the glory of God, is pleasing to Him. A good Christian song with God glorifying lyrics sung by good Christian men or women is perfectly fine even if its screamed out to shrieking bass riffs. One of my favorite radio stations is Air1 - a station that plays Christian rock, pop and hiphop and has some fairly screamy music sometimes - and some really great Christian rap. I used to hate rap music until i found the Christian stuff. Now i love it!
Sadly enough there are SOME churches who would strongly discourage someone like you described from attending their church. But there are many who would welcome them as well. You just have to find the right church. There are even churches specifucally designed to reach out to a person like that in some larger cities. You just have to look. Search for a good non-denominational church. Youre more likely to find true Christian acceptance and less prejudice there than in some traditiinal churches. Sad but true.

I consider myself a Christian and to answer your question, I dislike screaming music with a passion. I think it's totally messed up in so many ways. That being said I could care less what others listen to or how they dress or look. They can make those decisions for them selves. I'm not the one they have to answer to unless they go against the laws of society. They will ultimately answer to the higher power if they go against those rules.

I think it's important to ask yourself the following questions:
1) What message does my life style convey?
2) How does the music and my other sources of entertain affect my feelings?
3) Will the music influence my values?

At Amos 5:15 we are encouraged to “hate what is bad, and love what is good." We should always look at our entertainment and association to see if it promote behavior that violates wholesome values, such as Bible principles. Our choices of association and entertainment are more than just a window into your mind and heart revealing facets of the inner person. It can influence your mind and heart. I hope this helps!

I admit that I don't know much about screaming music. I think the music you listen to is your own personal choice whether you attend church or not. If you can listen to it and it doesn't negatively influence you, then listen to whatever kind of music you want. As far as cutting yourself, that is self-harming behavior and a reason for concern. I don't have a religious reason for not liking cutting, it just concerns me that there are underlying issues that need to be addressed.
