Why do people believe in God and Satan?

Report as
Phlorence_602

Why not? Why do you have to Judge anyone?
He's real. If you want to believe him, believe, if not, don't. Period.
He's there, If you seek him, you'll find him.

Why do people not belive in God and Satan? It's true you can obviously see the evil in the world who do you think is tempting them? You can also see the good as in God.

You were the one that asked why people don't believe. Don't ask if you don't really want an answer.

And FYI- atheists would love to leave Christians alone, if you would just stop shoving your beliefs on people and into our laws, schools, and governments.

Because there is to much in the world that cannot be explained through only science. The words "coincidence" "just because" are used quite often in the evolution world. The same question can be asked, why don't people believe in God?

Report as
Because there's no reason to.
Report as
FunnyLittleFrog
Scientists don't say "just because". And you live in the evolution world, like it or not.
Report as
And actually there's a lot that can be explained only with science. The problem is that scientists haven't gotten to that point yet.
Report as
Funny little frog. Actually I believe in intelligent design, not "by chance" explosions and mutating organisms that came from nowhere and changed from a speck into a fish then a bird a dog and your mom
Report as
Passage I didn't say there wasn't anything that could be explained with science. I said there were to many things that couldn't
Report as
If it was completely explained through science, It wouldn't be called The Big Bang "theory", would it? No, it would be called the big bang that actually happened.
Report as
There was a book I read once about intelligent design, I wish I could remember the name.
Report as
say: 1.) I never said it could be explained through science.
2.) There are different definitions of the word theory. In philosophy, theory means something that has not been completely proven yet. In science, a theory is something that has not been disproven, meaning there is plenty of evidence for it.
Report as
Evidence, yes. Enough to convince us Christians, no. A theory is a theory is a theory.
Report as
@southern: you're very judging honestly, especially for someone who lacks knowledge. if you don't actually know something about atheism or evolution then don't say anything about it. you believe that some god was always there and he created everything. then said god got made because he was questioned by an angel and kicked the angel out of heaven and sent him to eternity in hell. more or less, your gods not powerful.
I believe in something that actually makes sense. everything is ongoing because energy never dies out. matter arises from dead matter. you believe in contradictions, I believe in things that actually make sense. but tthis is not my religion. you're too judgemental of things you don't even know about
Report as
That definition was repetitive. Its the same. It like the glass is half empty for philosophy and half full for science.
Report as
@say: it is enough to convince y'all actually. in fact there's so much evidence to convince you, that many Christians are already applying it to the bible and saying that god was what spurred evolution and made it happen. i'm pretty sure that's enough evidence. you see what I'm saying now? unlike your religion, science is so convincing that it's even being used in religion. second, a theory is a theory is a theory. what's that supposed to mean? you've made no argument whatsoever
Report as
I'm not trying to debunk your religion, it doesn't affect me. I say that respectively.
Report as
@say: I don't have a religion. I'm an atheist, I don't believe in religion. and second the definition is not repetitive. it's not saying half empty for philosophy and half full for science. that doesn't even make sense. it's not even a correct analogy. again, in science a theory is something that has not been disprove and remains true. it's different in philosophy.
Report as
I meant that a theory is still an unprovable idea, no matter how you look at it. Regardless of the facts the concept still falls short part a certain point. I believe things can evolve in a sense of adaptation. I just don't think we came from virtually nothing. Seems there had to be someone or something running the show.
Report as
There's nothing that says we came from virtually nothing. This is the creationists' no knowledge view on everything. and a theory is not an unprovable idea. a theory is something that has been tested over and over and over and even after much rebuttal and much removal of error it still remains the same. it does not fall short of anything.
Report as
Well, I stand corrected. You seem to be very knowledgeable. I apologize if I offended you, but to be honest, we could debate on this all day and reach no agreement. No one really knows the truth.
Report as
If we are persistent in claiming delusion as a fact, then yes we will never reach an agreement.
Report as
Why can't you just say "thanks for the compliment" and move on. I'm still not changing my religious views, my argument still stands. Delusional is your opinion.
Report as
No, delusional is more of a psychological observance. You can see it's delusion just by how people are raised. Those without any idea of god don't require it but those with the idea of god can't see it without. And thanks for the compliment.
Report as
I wasn't even raised on my religious views. I started going to church on my own as an adult. Delusional is still your opinion. And you're welcome for the compliment.
Report as
As a scientist it makes me cringe every time someone says " just a theory". So is gravity, kids- jump off a building and tell me how that theory is just a guess.

That's how they were raised. I highly doubt anybody actually does believe. I mean, most of these so called believers don't even know anything about any other religion. Why would theirs be correct? Not only that, but it's for the idea of a scapegoat. They want someone to blame it on. Plus, these ridiculous ideas come from people wanting something that would punish the bad or the immoral people, although that's the part of the justice system in the government.

The idea of omnipotent beings arose for the sole purpose of explaining the inexplicable. Long ago, even philosophers believed in gods. Now, in this day and age, there is substantial evidence showing that these views are false. Despite this, religion is still tolerated worldwide, and no one calls you an idiot for your beliefs. To quote another, "I can tell you that, if the world was to start again, and if all knowledge was wiped from the planet, man would discover again. They would encounter fossils, discover atoms, map constellations and life would return to how it is now, but I promise that the idea of a talking snake would never be believed again."

There's good reason to believe in God, and the Bible gives sound evidence about God's existance as well as his creation. (Genesis1:1;Psalms 19:1, 104:24;Romans 1:20) Even scientists have identified over 100 chemical elements and their atomic structure displays an intricate mathematical interrelationship of the elements. The periodic table points to obvious design. Such amazing design could not possibly be accidental, a product of chance. We readily acknowledge that things such as cameras, radios, and computers have been produced by an intelligent designer. So would it be reasonable, to say that far more complex things such as the eye, the ear, and the human brain did not originate with an intelligent Designer?(John 4:24, 7:28; 1 Cor. 15:44)

Satan’s existence is not taken seriously by most people today. Likely, it is a reflection of the spirit of the age. Living as we do in what some have called the post-Christian era, atheism, hedonism, materialism, and communism have replaced religious faith in many societies. Millions of people no longer believe in God, viewing his existence as unnecessary to their personal philosophies. And they have discarded Satan along with God. Some religious people in Christendom, even though they claim to believe in God, feel that belief in Satan is out-of-date in this 20th century. However, rejecting God is not something new. (Psalm 14:1; 53:1;10:4) Even back then, people acted as if God did not exist. And the logical conclusion must have been that if there is no God, there can be no Satan. Some accept the belief in a literal Devil. There are those who believe the ancient Zoroastrian teaching of dualism, others even say that good and evil are both facets of the Godhead. Some beliefs in Satan goes further, people worship him, either by name or by means of satanic or demonic rites. For millenniums, witchcraft and sorcery have been identified with Satan worship. Satanism still flourishes.

People have a natural need to have some one to right all wrongs and set good apart from evil. People need there to be an explanation as to why the horrible things in life happen. God and Satan are merely the Christian personifications of these things.

They believe in God. They know that God used to have an Arch Angle or an angle high in power and in favor with God. BUT Lucifer his Arch Angle wanted more power than God. So he turned some of the angles on his side. We call them fallen angels or demons. God called him Satan and he was pure evil. He made sin. All it dose is turns you away from God a bits you in the butt. So we know he's out their and that we need to stay away from his temptations. Like sex before marriage, cheating, drugs, anything that could break your spiritual bond with God.

SOME modern scholars say that Satan is not a real person. They claim that he was merely created in the imagination of men. This controversy is nothing new. "The Devil's deepest wile," wrote 19th-century poet Charles-Pierre Baudelaire, "is to persuade us that he does not exist."The Bible describes Satan as a real person who exists in the invisible spirit realm. (Job 1:6) It tells us about his vicious and ruthless qualities as well as his evil actions. (Job 1:13-19; 2:7,8; 2 Timothy 2:26) It even records conversations that Satan had with God and with Jesus.-Job 1:7-12; Matthew 4:1-11. Where did such an evil being come from? Long before man existed, God created his 'firstborn' Son, who eventually came to be known as Jesus. (Colossians 1:15) In time, other 'sons of God,' called angels, were created. (Job 38:4-7) All were perfect and righteous. However, one of those angels would become Satan.Satan was not his given name at the time of his creation. It is a descriptive name, which means "Adversary; Enemy; Accuser." He came to be called Satan because he chose a life course in opposition to God. Satan "did not stand fast in the truth." (John 8:44) .

To answer your question, belief in God, whatever god or gods, a person believes in has been passed down through the ages in families an or whatever religion a person was associated with. I can really agree with Eric's explanation, because everything he said was coming from the Bible, and can be substantiated based on those Bible truths. As free moral agents we do have the right to choose what we want to believe, but shouldn't that choice be based on truth rather then hear say or a lie. If we believe someone who is inaccurate or misinformed about what they think may be the truth, would we then become a follower of them, an then be just as misinformed? Here's a thought the Bible says this @ John 8:12 & 1 Peter 2:21 after considering those scripture if you choose to do so, you might want to take a look at this website www.jw.org for further enlightenment about the answer to the question you ask. What could hurt to investergate?
