is warming up a car before driving it necessary or is it just a myth?

Report as

It is an issue of cumulative effects. Warming the car allows the oil to distribute over the moving parts. Running cold increases the wear on those same parts because they aren't well lubricated.

Warming a car before driving gives it better driving performance and enables it to last longer. It does, however, waste gas when idling.

It depends its used for colder climates so people can walk into a nice cozy car instead of a nasty freezing col seat etc. it is not necessary for warmer climates bcuz then you'll get overheated. Not sure if that's what u meant but I tried:)

You should because your car might break down

It is only minimally useful until the engine comes to operating temperature. This is usually about 5 or ten minutes. It is absolutely necessary until the oil pressure comes up, about 1 minute.

In frigid climates it is necessary. The oil needs time to circulate through the engine before you take off. Even in warmer climates you should not just start it up and take off...give it a few seconds...it'll help prolong your engine life.

New cars need only be warmed up for 10 seconds, according to new data. Then drive that thing silly willy nilly.
