My son 16, is in wrestling, football and weight trains in the off season. His Creatinine unusually high, what could be causing this?

6'185lbs He is super muscular for his age. He drinks 8-10 glasses of water a day. He is not on Steroids or any other illegal supplements. He has a Whey protein shake some times but does not take anything else. He was rushed to the hospital last week for a severe stomach ache with turned in to what doctors say was a muscle strain even though he had not worked out in 2 days. When they were ruling out appendicitis, gall bladder, kidney stones, pancreatitis, The blood test showed his liver levels were a bit high and his Kidney Creatinine was 1260. They admitted him and put him on fluids for a day retested and they were at 940. They sent him home to follow up with his Pedetrician. We followed up the next day and he is stumped as well. Any help woudl be greatly appreciated!!!

High creatinine levels may indicate kidney problems. Physicians check creatinine levels when performing routine blood work. Doctors recommend the best course of action for patients whose creatinine level is too high.

If he has been on a high protein diet that includes a lot of meats, this could partially explain why his creatine levels are this high. If subsequent tests at the hospital don't reveal anything, you should talk to his pediatrician about getting a referral to a renal function specialist. I hope it's nothing serious.
