Yes ADHD is a real condition, because people who have it have to take medication and some just can't help it.

It's an excuse to stifle creativity in children with prescription drugs.

Or...you know...some people really just need help concentrating...and stuff...

It's a real affliction yes. What causes it I believe is subject to questioning. And it's waaay over diagnosed. Drug em up and not deal with the real problem.

No.. ADHD is a made up condition. A child that is "diagnosed" with it generally has parents that do not pay enough attention to the child. If you take any decent psychology course you will know that a child needs CONSTANT direction. A child also wants and needs constant attention. Most people are incredibly self absorbed and do not give the child the attention that it needs or deserves. Therefore, this diagnosis came about. We also have medication available to make a child NOT care about seeking attention.... A diagnosis of ADD or ADHD helps the parent feel better about not having been a good parent. It helps relieve them of any of the personal responsibility.
Pretty sad actually.... but hey, The pharmaceutical companies make good money from it.

Are you a physician? How about a parent? Why don't you save the back seat parenting or doctoring and let the ones who know do it.

Suzie... For the record. I am a parent, a grandparent, I have had a long standing career in medicine, a student of psychology... and have other family members in psychology.
You will see NO back seat parenting from me.... I have experience as well as plenty of knowledge.
If you know someone with ADD or ADHD.... You can blame the parents. Those two diagnoses are made up.... and there is plenty of research to back it up. Just because you havent read any of it, doesnt give you cause to have such a negative reaction. Try doing your OWN research before you spout off about something that you are obviously uneducated about.

Are you serious??? I thought you were 13 hahaha!! Sorry mr but you do not come across as an adult at all and I don't believe you haha!!

Funny, You dont come across as an adult either. Funny how that works. I am sorry that you are so close minded that you have no other recourse but to be rude. I also feel bad for your lack of intelligence and education. That is sad.
Would you like to know another reason why I dont believe ADD and ADHD to be real?? I suppose you dont... You dont seem as though you are remotely interested in self improvement, but I will share my thoughts anyway.
Parents assume that they are always doing a good job or at the very least, an adequate job raising their children. If the child is "hyperactive" or showing "lack of focus" parents DO NOT wish to be told that they arent doing the right things. They want to be told that they are awesome at raising their children. When something isnt going right with them, they want a physician to prescribe a medication. That makes the parent feel better. Most of the time when you leave an emergency room, you feel better if you have an antibiotic for your childs cold or flu right?? An antibiotic doesnt help either of those.... but the cold or flu will run its course and the parent will give the antibiotic and ASSUME that the child feels better because of it. Now, when the child gets older and REALLY needs the antibiotic.... it wont work because the bacteria have grown immune to it. Funny how YOU had your piece and quiet when your child was a baby though.
ADD and ADHD are the same thing. NO child should ever be put on a mediation to help mommy and daddy feel better about their parenting skills. The child might actually have something wrong with them. It might be more logical to think of a food allergy or intolerance though. Are you aware that a wheat allergy can make a child absolutely CRAZY? (not literally) Of course YOU dont know that.... You dont seem like someone that even cares to read or improve themselves. You just take for granted that all is good as long as you get your way.
You may continue with YOUR rude dialogue now. I expect it from you.

BTW.... major difference in the way I converse from a 13 yo. Your observation skills are not very good either.

No, not really. You are the one who's rude and insulting on many of mine and others answers which is why I can't believe you're an adult. Sorry I hurt your feelings but you have been extremely rude on many of my answers. Not just having a different opinion, down right RUDE!! Perhaps you should think about how you come across. Anyway I'm done with this conversation. Again, sorry I insulted you, I was shocked. Take care now!

i am NOT a bad parent. i am NOT a lazy parent. I read to my children, played games with them, was active outside with them, helped them with their homework-not doing it for them, but showing them how to come up with the answers on their own. we had 1000's of spelling bees and math quizzes. we made dozens of dioramas, the kids were active in sports and music programs of THEIR choosing. i had one child out of three natural children that has emotional illnesses, one of which is ADHD. i had three children came to live with me while their mom got her head on and two of those three were diagnosed with ADD for one, the other with ADHD. with a doctor's permission, i took one off of medication immediately as i felt it was unneeded and i was right. DO NOT TELL ME SOMETHING YOU DO NOT KNOW ABOUT! you did not live in my home while i was raising my kids.

read the posts above and below by those who so righteously believe that ANYONE who has had a child diagnosed with either ADD or ADHD was/is a bad parent. i have heard it for the last 15 years. well what did i do wrong. did i take him to church, did i teach him about God, well beat him. teach him who is boss. let me take him, and i will make him be good.
-
talk about people with their heads stuck in the ground!
-
oh and how is the child diagnosed with this supposed to react to those type of statements said in front of or directly to them? oohhhh thank you for helping this child gain MORE issues.
-
and yes, i am very much a mental health advocate! and yes i am defensive as i have seen too many people belittle people who have issues because of their misinformation and prejudice.
-
i have actually had my son told that he was not allowed to play with a child, because my son was contagious!

It is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It depends how you treat your kids and their response. It is too hyped and man made disorder.

It is real, however I feel it's highly over diagnosed. It seems any kid with energy or a small lack of focus gets the diagnosis. When I was younger in worked with children who had emotional or behavioral problems. An ADHD child on or off meds is like night and day.
