I shared this earlier and it is a great post by one of our mods that explains polls:
I think the key with polls, is making sure that there is an actual purpose behind the question. So where as the "X vs Y", or "what's your favorite..." type questions, that just ask for random lists, or a straight yes/no answer are no longer allowed, there are still questions that are technically polls, that would be perfectly acceptable.
Examples of legit poll questions would be - "Thinking of buying a new car - which one is better for commuting in traffic, a Honda Civic or a Chevy Cruise?"
"I'm having a party next weekend, what songs can I play that will keep the mood upbeat?"
"My son is 8, would an iPad or a Kindle Fire be more appropriate for him, and what are the pros and cons of each one?"
