Well, there are a couple of old movie theatres in San Francisco that are in dire need of repairs or are in danger of being torn down. If you can manage to rescue them that would be cool. You will need capital and lots of it. If you're talking about some movie plex in some suburban shopping mall, I have no idea. I would imagine you would have to drum up at least $70,000, some of which would have to go to grease the palms of someone in city hall (For permits, licensing, other red tape). If your were to take the hypothetical movie theatres in San Francisco, you could get financial help from some rich/anonymous donors who like the idea you have in mind. If you're talking about some ghost theatre in Barstow, California, or some other economically deprived area that might be more difficult to attain/sustain your dream. You could also strive to turn the theatre into a stage area for plays as well as movies, then you could get help from actors/playwrites as well. Good luck.

In order to start your own business, you should study and research completely about the movie theater business. Also, make sure that you have enough capital to start up the business and select a place where the business will grow over time. Check out www.ehow.com ? Arts & Entertainment for more tips.

We had an old cinema near us restored, and now it plays movies (with the really big screen) and has tables where dinner is served, with the ticket price a little lower than normal movies (money made thru food). Also a balcony for people who don't want to eat... It's a wonderful place, but I'm sure it cost a lot to refurbish. Whenever tickets go on sale (6pm every night for the 7pm show), there's a line going around the block...

Why invest in something that will very likely one day be obsolete....especially in your lifetime, given your present age? Just a thought. Kudos, though, for having an entrepreneurial mindset. Just look for something that will be a long-term benefit payout in return for the initial investment.

You can buy a franchise such as cinemark, the start up capital should probably run about half a million depending on the size of the theatre . Learn all you can about the theatre business , ask a theatre manager if you can talk to him or her about the ends and out. As with any business, estimate how much you think it will cost you to run the operation, then double it.
