Unions are good for the most part.. The problem is unions also protect the ones that don't work as hard or have a crappy work ethic.. You can bust your butt and get paid the same as someone who doesn't.. But they can get fired or let go if they accumulate enough discipline points..

That is absolutely not true (unless you mean the police union!). The Union will protect you to an extent - so employers that are jerks can't fire you without just cause. But just last night one of our general foreman got fired (we are union members). He crashed a truck - which is okay if you admit to it and do the paperwork. He was stupid and lied - 2 witnesses came forward and he was gone! Stupid way to lose a $300k /year job!
