A nice quiet restaurant, never go to a movie or any place loud on a first date, it should be somewhere quiet so that you can talk and get to know each other. The first date is when you decide whether or not there will be a second date. Be a gentleman, pull her chair out, hold the door open for her, etc. If she orders a very expensive meal, or if she's rude to the waitress, don't ask her out for a second date.
Dinner and movie is a classic for a reason.

Don't go to the movies on a first date. Save that for later. Why waste an hour and a half not talking. Do something so that you two can get to know each other. This time of year your choices are limited mostly to indoor stuff. Bowling, laser tag. Walking around a mall will tell you a lot about each other.
Definitely not to the movies, why? Well, plain and simple your just sitting there watching a movie, and plus its your first date you gotta make her feel like your worth it, so take her out to go eat, you don't have to be rich to do that, plus she'll enjoy it!
